Administrator and bureaucrat guidelines

This should go on My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Wiki:Administrator guidelines:

Administrator and bureaucrat rights

Bestowing administrator rights

  • Contributors to the wiki who have made significant contributions may be bestowed administrator rights following a discussion on the forum.

Bestowing bureaucrat rights

  • Administrators may be bestowed bureaucrat rights following a discussion on the forum.

Removing rights

  • Administrator or bureaucrat rights may be removed for the following reasons without discussion: vandalism, spam, or harassment.
  • Administrator or bureaucrat rights may be removed for the following reason only after discussion on the forum: unwillingness to cooperate with the wiki community.

Lapsing rights

  • The administrator or bureaucrat rights of a contributor may lapse and be removed if they have made less than ten contributions in the last 90 days. They may be bestowed again upon request.

I don't think there's anything controversial here. Fixes and suggestions welcome. –Throwawaytv 09:15, January 21, 2012 (UTC)

Looks fine to me. If this is directed towards King's recent administration powers, I gave it to him because he would always ask me or another admin to delete pictures, and replace them with better ones, as well as making hundreds of excellent contributions to this wiki. I found it only fair he gained rights. From now on though, I will happily do discussions.
P.S. What do we do about lapsing rights exactly? FANMADE Pinkie portal front by blackgryph0n-d3f93p8Lord of Shadows Words mean nothing!FANMADE Pinkie portal back by blackgryph0n-d3f93p8 09:22, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
Yeah I was surprised to see a new admin. For the record I think King is an excellet contributor. Admin rights shouldn't lapse; the only exception was made for KinkyMare because she was made bureaucrat when the wiki was still just her, Nathan, and me. I don't think any other exceptions should be made, but I'll add something about making steady contributions. If it's controversial I'll remove it. –Throwawaytv 09:29, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
Sure, that makes sense. FANMADE Pinkie portal front by blackgryph0n-d3f93p8Lord of Shadows Words mean nothing!FANMADE Pinkie portal back by blackgryph0n-d3f93p8 09:33, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
Well Throwy previous admin http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/User:Denmax did state on his last contribution that he did indeed left this wikia if that's a way around it. - KingLazy93 09:36, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
His admin rights should have never been removed. That was not the conclusion of the discussion. –Throwawaytv 09:42, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
To be honest, I didn't know what the conclusion of the discussion was. King just asked me to remove Denmax's adminship, and from what I knew of the discussion, I went off that. I shall add his admin rights back for now. I never did say to remove his admin rights I just said at how he left the Wiki and that he doesn't bother coming back or contribute and honestly Throwy I don't see the point to let a deserter keep his admin rights. - KingLazy93 09:50, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
I've added a section about lapsing rights that should please everybody. –Throwawaytv 09:51, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
Throwy if I'm reading the lapsing rules correct shouldn't that mean http://mlp.wikia.com/wiki/Special:Contributions/McClaw rights be lapsed? - KingLazy93 10:04, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
I guess. I'm neutral about lapsing admin rights, I can't see the harm but the benefit is really tiny, so... neutral. –Throwawaytv 11:03, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
Well we can't have people with the admin status like McClaw if they haven't contributed for more than 5 months and haven't heard from her since so I think the procedure is safe. - KingLazy93 11:09, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
I'm fine with anything everyone else agrees on. I do definitely like the "upon request" part however. FANMADE Pinkie portal front by blackgryph0n-d3f93p8Lord of Shadows Words mean nothing!FANMADE Pinkie portal back by blackgryph0n-d3f93p8 10:59, January 21, 2012 (UTC)

These are good, but for the reasons to remove admin/b'crat rights immediately, should "power abuse" be added?  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  14:39, January 21, 2012 (UTC)

What is "power abuse" that isn't vandalism, spam, harassment, or blocking a user without a valid reason? –Throwawaytv 14:47, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
The lattermost of those is what I was getting at, as well as possibly misusing the tools to delete/protect/modify abusefilters to inconvenience editors. I guess they could be considered subsets of "vandalism, spam, harassment".  FANMADE_Animated_Derpy_Hooves_desktop_ponies_sprite.gif Sig1.png Sig2.png  16:31, January 21, 2012 (UTC)
Yup. –Throwawaytv 18:44, January 21, 2012 (UTC)

Admin appointed without discussion

I honestly have to say, I can't believe this actually happend, Shadow. So soon after I had a fit about only being allowed three days to discuss new admins? And complained about established tradition being violated because we normally allow 10 days for discussion? You go and do this? Make someone an admin without even asking anyone else first? Really? This is a blatent abuse of bcrat powers. I'm sorry, but it really is. Apparently nothing I said before actually got through to anyone. And I rest my case about why we should not have bcrats at all. EquZephyr 21:00, January 21, 2012 (UTC)

I'm sorry Equ, but did I just make a random contributor an admin for the sheer fun of it? Did I remove an admin's powers without any reason to take them away? Did I hack into the mainframe of the wiki and violate it being a bcrat and all? No, I didn't. KingLazy93 would always ask me or another admin to delete pictures so he could replace them with better versions of it (why not just let him do it all by himself?). He has never gotten in trouble, other than a couple warnings about misuse of categories. I had recently given him rollback rights. He has been an excellent contributor for the time he's been on this wiki, and he's showing his worth even as we speak. I apologize for not putting it up for discussion previously, but I just thought it would be common sense.
Not to sound rude either, but, forums can be made for problems. I thought that was what forums were for. FANMADE Pinkie portal front by blackgryph0n-d3f93p8Lord of Shadows Words mean nothing!FANMADE Pinkie portal back by blackgryph0n-d3f93p8 04:19, January 22, 2012 (UTC)
At any rate we'll have an admin policy next week and we could all rest easy knowing that admis could only be appointed after discussion. –Throwawaytv 18:40, January 22, 2012 (UTC)
Would you feel better if Shadowdemon removes King's admin rights and we have a discussion about it? I mean, that's how it should have been conducted. The only reason I'm not asking for it is because I don't think anyone could raise any objections to King being an admin. I could be wrong. –Throwawaytv 18:40, January 22, 2012 (UTC)
I knew about the discussion point for admin appointment. But, as said by Throw, "I don't think anyone could raise any objections". No one made a forum about taking away King's rights, no one made a complaint about why King shouldn't be admin, and King has done more good an admin than he could ever do as a regular. Again, "I thought it would be common sense". If EquZephyr feels a discussion is necessary I'm going to support him. –Throwawaytv 19:37, January 22, 2012 (UTC)
I'll support a discussion as well, but what I don't want is someone saying I am abusing my bureaucrat powers when I am using them for the better of the community. That I won't tolerate. "Common sense" doesn't allow you to bypass asking the rest of the community for an opinion. There is no legitimate excuse for what you did, Shadow. None at all. Especially not so soon after the problems it caused last time when the normal discussion period was cut from 10 days to 3. I don't want King's admin powers taking away. But I do want Shadow to stop making excuses for why he decided he didn't have to follow policy. Because again, there simply is no legitimate excuse. EquZephyr 20:01, January 22, 2012 (UTC)
I apologized earlier in this discussion and said "From now on though, I will happily do discussions". I knew I was going behind the policy presented to the community, and I did it willingly. But, I did it with a reason. At the moment, I have gotten no complaints at all about King being appointed admin, and I assume there will be none made unless he abuses his power. Why wait ten days to get the same result we are at now?
As I said, I knew I was going behind policy, I knew what I was doing, and I will happily do discussions from here on out. FANMADE Pinkie portal front by blackgryph0n-d3f93p8Lord of Shadows Words mean nothing!FANMADE Pinkie portal back by blackgryph0n-d3f93p8 20:22, January 22, 2012 (UTC)
Outside of "stop making excuses", is there anything else Shadowdemon can do to alleviate your concerns? –Throwawaytv 20:53, January 22, 2012 (UTC)
He can stop missing the point. Which again, is that whether the results would have been the same or not, it does NOT give him the right to bypass the community and appoint new admins without a discussion. It's not a real apology when you say "I'm sorry, but really I didn't do anything wrong." And that's effectively what he's doing. I know you did it with a reason, Shadow. But you KNEW what the policy was, and you CHOSE not to follow it. That's a problem. And I'm sorry, but that is abusive. bcrat does not give you the right to operate outside of the policy. You seem to think it does as long as you have a way to justify it. EquZephyr 21:02, January 22, 2012 (UTC)
"I will happily do discussions from here on out."
I already knew I went behind the policy. I can't fix it now, unless you want to make a discussion for King's rights in another forum. What else am I supposed to do? I've said everything I need to say about it. Nothing else needs to be done. But I do wish you would stop trying to justify why you knowingly decided you didn't have to follow the policy and could just bypass the rest of the community. Because again, I just don't see where there is any legitimate justification for it. If it had been an emergency, that's one thing. But it wasn't. It's not like there was some burning need to make KingLazy an admin without following proper procedure first. That's all I am getting at. You are saying you won't do it again. That's all well and good. But you still seem to think that it was justified to do it in the first place. It wasn't. It just wasn't. That's all I am trying to get at, and it's the last thing I'm going to say about it. I'm not going to stay angry about it. All is forgiven and I have no hard feelings about it.
