- Return to Alicorns
According to the book Journal of the Two Sisters, alicorns (besides Celestia and Luna,) are implied to have existed during the "olden days" of Friendship is Magic, but, seem to have disappeared or gone extinct. Otherwise, they would've helped Celestia "reform" Nightmare Moon back into Princess Luna. MasterNexus (talk) 12:41, July 12, 2014 (UTC)
Alicorns were designed
Let us discuss the most evidence fitting way each race's magic would work:
Unicorns do magic through a forehead crest. The magical tissue is in the crest, and is a lobe of the brain.
Pegasi flight is a variation on balooning. It is done by shaking the front of a belly organ we will call the pterip. Cloud walking is achieved by obtain magic from the blood, which picks up magic from the back of the pterip.
Earth pony strength is achieved by organelles unique to them. If it went through blood, it would cause clots.
Do you think that mixing all these traits together would give a mighty princess, or a mangled corpse? It makes sense that someone spent a while trying to find a way to put these traits together in a way that could survive life, development and conversion. And who was good at designing things, had the most versitile magic type and was familiar with alicorns?
Varying power levels
So dialogue in Shadow Play - Part 2 has me thinking that Alicorns must vary in terms of power level, as the Pony of Shadows claimed that Twilight wasn't as strong as Star Swirl. Since we know that Star Swirl himself isn't as strong as Celestia or Luna-or at least The Journal of the Two Sisters seems to indicate as such-I would guess that Twilight's Alicorn magic is still developing due to her youth. I would guess that Celestia and Luna are probably roughly the same power level-though with different abilities-while Cadence is presumably a little bit more powerful than Twilight due to having been an Alicorn for a number of years longer. Of course, Twilight's raw talent could mean that she's equal to or even a little beyond Cadence.--Kilmarnock228 (talk) 22:07, October 30, 2017 (UTC)
