Powers[]

Despite his goofy exterior and mannerisms, Discord is very, very powerful, possibly more than Nightmare Moon or Celestia. He was able to warp reality, taking away Rarity and Twilight's horns, and Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy's wings, and spiriting away the elements of harmony. Not even Princess Luna's alter ego at the height of her power was capable of that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.28.71.185 (talkcontribs) 12 September 2011

More Powerful Actually. Celestia said that both her and Luna weren't strong enough to challenge him until they discovered the Elements, which are said to be the most powerful artifacts of their universe. If Nightmare Moon had been able to challenge Celestia and kidnap her so easily, think of what fighting Discord must have been like. And for all we know, he could be weak from just escaping imprisonment, and like you said, he's been a huge goofball, so imagine what he could do at full power if he really wanted to. Tolas of Brand 23:00, September 18, 2011 (UTC)

I am rather the much sure that, if he wanted to, he could completely annihalate all of Equestria. But where would the fun be in that? Also, that's what you'd expect a normal all-powerful villain to do, so he probably didn't do that for that very reason.BronyLiche 08:32, March 21, 2012 (UTC)BronyLiche

I think Discord and the Elements are both the most powerful beings in Equestria. Both have the same power, but one is an opposite of another, with Discord symbolising Chaos and the Elements symbolising Order. Elements are more powerful, you say? Not really. Discord easily stole them and vanquished them inside the mave six. So did the Elements with Discord - they only imprisoned him. They could destroy NMM leaving only good side of Luna, but they couldn't destroy Discord once and for all. Anyway, I think, that there's much more connection between Discord and the Elements than the Elements being only a tool to defeat Discord as anyone else.

I wouldn't expect Celestia and Luna to be able to beat Discord. As powerful as they are, they're still only mortals, whereas Discord is linked to chaos itself. It was stated that he was a spirit of disharmony; a spirit isn't a god, so I wouldn't go so far as to say that he is chaos, but he's still greater than a mere mortal. It makes sense to me that only someone or something supernatural would be capable of defeating him, and not just some super-powerful brute-force attack but something more than that, something that's powered by or is another force in the universe.

Here is my theory. Its less that he has a lot of power, its the nature of his powers. Discord power is to take what is in natural order and alter it, ensuing chaos as he does. However this does not mean he is more or less powerful than Celestia or Luna in terms of their strength. It simply means the nature of his magic allows him to bypass whatever restriction there are in the world and create an effect. For example twilight can turn animals into living organge hybrids, if by accident. However it takes a considerable amount of effort to try this. Celestia and Luna, in a more impressive feat than Discord, moves entire celestial bodies by will alone without need of a spell. However her magic was overpowered when Chrysalis gorged on so much energy that she could barely overpower celestia power, yet was easily defeated once Cadance released her natural abilities. Also discord has a steep disadvantage in that he is unable to use any other magic than his own. Celestia can even used dark magic if pressed, and also has shown that she does have the ability to defend things like the elements of harmony from his influence. Note also that Discord did not seem able to actually affect the elements at all, only able to steal them.

I have a little theory about Discord's abilities. It seems that he's powered by chaos, as was shown to us in the first episode of season 2, when he was freed by the Cutie Mark Crusaders' disagreement. But what's interesting is that it seems like he can't draw strength from it if it's too far away, it has to be near him. So what if he can cause chaos and then gain strength from his own results and then use his increased powers to cause more chaos, creating a vicious cycle? I think that the more powerful Discord becomes, the farther away he can be from some kind of unbalance, but still feed off of it, and also control things from farther and farther away. I also think that he has omnipotence within his sphere of influence. --Reversalmushroom 09:50, June 20, 2012 (UTC)

Tribute[]

His ability to warp reality as he sees fit may be a tribute to his voice actor's most well known character, Q, who is able to alter anything he wants with a snap and a flash. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.102.51.247 (talkcontribs) 12 September 2011

Dragonokis, draconequis, or draconequus[]

The closed captions of The Return of Harmony Part 1 spell the word describing Discord's stone statue as "draconequis", while The Hub's website spells it "dragonokis". The word might be formed from Greek "drakon" and Latin "equus", meaning lizard-horse. -Throwawaytv 22:26, September 17, 2011 (UTC)

Draconequus would be the most latin version. PonyPal 04:50, March 12, 2012 (UTC)
I tend to use draconequus. ~Supuhstar* 19:08, September 28, 2012 (UTC)

Mythology[]

Discord's himself, his abilities and also his relation to chaos is based on Eris, the Greek Goddess of Strife and Discord. If this is the case, either both Princess Celestia and Princess Luna were also based on Harmonia, the Greek Goddess of Harmony and Concord. -Duo2nd 13:15, September 18, 2011 (UTC)

Discord's fondness of being a trickster could be based off of Loki, the Norse trickster God.

Discord seems to have a trivial role, like the greek Goddess Eris(a very minor goddess), who did not appear in most mythology (Discord could also be based off of Nemesis, another goddess known for her evil deeds and few apperances). However, when Eris did act out one time, the consequences were dire, as she indirectly caused the Trojan War. According to myth, Eris was not invited to a wedding party (being the goddess of discord, everyone would be unhappy), but showed up anyways, carrying a golden apple that had "To the Fairest" written on it. Eris threw it into the middle, and Aphrodite, Athena, and Hera all claimed it for themselves, though Zeus made a mortal called Paris of Troy decide who should get the apple. Aphrodite promised Paris marriage to Helen of Sparta if he gave her the apple. Of course, Paris gave it to Aphrodite, and kidnapped Helen and brought her back to Troy, thus starting the Trojan War, which tore the Olympian family apart with some siding with the greeks, and other with the trojans. In the end, the gods supporting the Trojans (Ares, Apollo, Aphrodite, Enyo, Artemis, Phobos, and Deimos) were defeated, and Troy was defeated with the Trojan Horse. Obviously, the losses were great, and all started because of Eris and the golden apple. Though Luna might symbolize Artemis, the moon goddess, and Celestia might symbolize her older brother Apollo or Helios, both sun Gods.   -User:kingtiger13123 2013

Possible Defeat[]

Discord seems to do only things that are unexpected. He might have been able to steal the elements, because they expected no one could steal them. He gave back their wings and horns, and it was most likely that no one expected that he would. It is that the way possible that to stop him or mess him up, is to want and expect the chaos, making harmony the unexpected. 99.196.62.14 09:37, September 23, 2011 (UTC)

This strategy could be problematic. If the strategy is employed, then naturally the expectation is that Discord will do something unexpected. If it is expected that Discord will do something unexpected, then Discord will instead do something expected, but all that is expected is what is unexpected, which means that Discord will do something unexpected, but all that is unexpected is what is expected, so... You get the idea. By calling the logically impossible into existence, the user of the strategy will have plunged Equestria into an even greater chaos, thus delighting Discord and certainly not defeating him.

It also goes without saying that Discord still uses some form of order, even when his game is at it's most chaotic. The very nature of chaos being what it is, the closest event to it in any universe would be entropy. The fact remains, though, that Discord isn't just tearing things down: he's weakening the bonds that hold things together, allowing them to be torn down on their own... and, from that mess, he rebuilds it after his likeness. He doesn't make bunnies rot away; he wears away at the laws of dimensional space, and stretches their legs to make them taller. He doesn't separate clouds into hydrogen and oxygen; he waits until there are no clouds in the sky, evaporates the water, adds chemicals to it, and creates a kind of cotton-candy cloud that will condense into chocolate rain. It's quite possible that the Elements of Harmony created Discord, who then created Luna and Celestia as the first equine life forms, which eventually created he three races of equines in Equestria; and, the only true way to beat him might very well be to strengthen the bonds that we might consider natural laws... restricting his version of reality, with harmony that says it can't happen that way. Expecting chaos would only allow for more chaos, which gives him the opportunity to create his new order.

Discord's past deeds[]

Discord may have been the one to turn Luna into Nightmare moon. While there's no proof of this yet, Discord has the power to change ponies' personalities and fill them with doubt. It was also said that someone or something turned Luna evil, and Discord is a very easy fit for this given what we've seen of him so far. This also may be why he was smiling as a stone statue-he knew he had already won. All he had to do was wait for his prison to weaken over time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.248.58.202 (talkcontribs) 01:27, 21 September 2011

If Discord turned Luna into Nightmare Moon she would have been grey and looked the same as Luna. PonyPal 04:53, March 12, 2012 (UTC)

He may not have turned Luna into Nightmare Moon, per se, but created Nightmare Moon and forced that identity into Luna; this would not require taking away any of the traits Luna embodies and consequently would not leave her looking grey. 86.166.167.58 21:28, August 16, 2012 (UTC)

Discord may have been the one to "create" Celestia and Luna. It has been established that Equestria was founded by earth ponies, pegasi, and unicorns; no mention of ponies with both horns and wings. It was mentioned that Discord made life hard for the three types of ponies and that Celestia and Luna rose up to fight him. I speculate that they were one of the three types of pony and in the fight they were transformed into the combo-creatures they are now. The result of their victory and their transformation led to them becoming rulers of Equestria. Kc2dpt 02:59, January 16, 2012 (UTC)

Aside from a possible Celestia/Luna creation, Discord could also have created the elements of harmony. His creation of them would explain how he has so much power over the elements. (He stole them from a locked vault.) He appears to have more power over them than Celestia or Twilight. It would also explain why he hid them but in a way they could be found instead of destroying the only thing in the universe that could re-imprison him. He was far more concerned with destroying the friendship of the ponies than with destroying the elements. He also speaks about them with fondness (laughter being his "personal favorite"). No powerful being would be expected to create the only thing capable of destroying him. So, it makes sense for Discord to do precisely what was not expected.

Discord was already turned to stone the first time before Luna turned into Nightmare Moon, otherwise she and Celestia couldn't have used the Elements of Harmony to turn him to stone Ghostkaiba297 (talk)

Discord as the Creator?[]

Discord might have created the entire world Equestria is located in. Seeing how he is able to control every aspect of it without any apparent effort (as opposed to unicorn magic or pegasus weather control), he should at least be capable enough for that. Then at some point his creations (Celestia and Luna) defeated him, only to discover that the world doesn't run automatically, making it necessary to perform tasks like rising the sun or changing the seasons manually.

Also, to make even wilder speculations, he might have designed the ponies to be especially prone to mental breakdowns. Luna becoming NMM and Celestia banishing her for 1000 years might be both cases of such breakdowns, and might also make Celestia realize that the peace in Equestria is metastable at best. To counteract this, she began anchoring the importance of friendship in the pony culture, and tasking some ponies to write her reports about it. Those reports would be primarily a tool to preserve Celestia's sanity, by constantly reminding her of how friendship works, and also allowing her to stay in touch with the "lower" ponies.

Here I'm assuming that Twilight (and the other main characters) aren't the only ones who write those reports, and maybe overestimating those breakdowns they had. Also, I have no idea where to fit the Elemens of Harmony in all this. Also, one could argue that creating a yandere species would make it way too easy for Discord, and therefore "boring". He might probably rather do the opposite, making the ponies "righteous", so that it would be more "fun" to corrupt them or to watch them suffer. Speaking of corruption, he actually failed with Fluttershy, resorting to direct manipulation. 188.174.125.164 01:51, April 22, 2012 (UTC)

Here is a theory I have been developing regarding Discord and his link to Equestria. Many things in this theory have been hinted on in earlier posts, so please bear with me. It is evident that Discord has complete control over physics and non-sentient beings, and partial control over the sentient. While he was fully conscious, clouds moved and precipitated independent of pagasi control, and the sun and moon rose without unicorn magic. When he was turned to stone, these things lost independent functionality. (Following this train of thought, it's safe to assume that if Discord were destroyed, the very laws of physics would unravel, destroying their universe.) Here's my theory; Discord began his life as a common Windigo (Creatures that feed off of chaotic emotions, specifically anger and hatred,) and gained enough power to not only freeze his hosts, but also take on some of their core characteristics as he fed off of them. As he moved from host to host, he gained ever-increasing sentience, power, and a myrad of body parts. Eventually, he had enough power and intelligence to tie himself in to the fabric of reality, giving him all the power he could possibly want. Having ascended to near-god status, and having such a vast intellect, he quickly became bored. Therefore, as a former windigo, he turned to something that was comfortable and familiar; chaos. Long story short, he wreaks havok on Equestria for a few centuries, then Celestia and Luna turn up and turn him into stone. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.105.41.208 (talkcontribs)

FANMADE Q creates Equestria comic

Thats how Equestria was made. (maybe)

I have an interesting theory that is connected to the Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion and the expansion pack The Shivering Isles. I tend to think of Discord as Sheogorath, the Daedric prince of madness, who you could probably say is who Discord is totally based off of (Making people do stupid things, having a messed up realm, talking in riddles, like in Skyrim, where Sheogorath says things that make people think he is the Champion of Cyrodiil from Oblivion). It is possible that Equestria is a plane of Oblivion, or something like it, and that when discord is turned to stone, he went to another plane of Oblivion, like Mehrunes Dagon supposedley did. Therefore, as a human like Mankar Camoran could create an Oblivion realm all for himself, it is possible that Discord, Chyrsallis, and Celestia are in fact, Daedric princes, each with their own plane of Oblivion, and there is also a possiblity that the ponies from the first TV series live in a different plane of Oblivion....****

Maybe, that Discord resembles Q is not a coincidence. It's not necessarily him to be The Q, but maybe he can be some reflection or part of him. Here is some sort of comic about it (using images from ST:TNG and MLP:FiM) Wizeman (talk) 06:54, August 6, 2013 (UTC)

Possible explanation of Discord's absence during ancient times is, that he hasn't to be in the world to create it. Like when you create a computer game with it's world, story and such. Your character do not present in it, until you create yout avatar at specific point of time.Wizeman (talk) 04:27, September 8, 2013 (UTC)

Discord's limbs[]

The assorted animals that Discord is made out of may not be entirely random. All of his limbs are used by artists as inspiration for their own pictures of dragons. Deer legs are commonly used when artists want to draw a slender beast, or lion paws when they want something dangerous, and the serpentine body structure is often used for Chinese dragons. This may indeed be a stretch: many artists get inspiration from many different animals, but at first many use the more obvious creatures like Lions, birds, and snakes.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.248.58.202 (talkcontribs) 01:27, 21 September 2011

It has also been suggested that Discord's limbs are those of creatures seen in Season 1, for example, his lion paw was from the manticore.71.58.95.65 03:13, March 26, 2012 (UTC)plumander

Pegasus victory[]

In the Greek myth, the Chimera was only beaten by a man riding Pegasus, because Pegasus was so fast and agile it could avoid its fiery breath. While it's obvious that Fluttershy had beaten Discord before he just brute forced it, it is arguable that Rainbow Dash also won in a way. Rainbow Dash was showing loyalty to her hometown when she left the game. She is the only one where it is arguable that she is still shown using her element while brainwashed.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.248.58.202 (talkcontribs) 01:27, 21 September 2011

Discord's Escape from Imprisonment[]

I think the reason Discord escaped from his stone imprisonment was because of the disharmony between Applebloom, Sweetie Belle, and Scootaloo in his presence. Disharmony may be what fuels his power, and having disharmony nearby probably gave him enough power to escape. I don't believe it was ever said how Discord escaped: the seal that imprisoned him wasn't going to eventually break like it did with Nightmare Moon, so this theory can fit. YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE ME! 19:43, January 18, 2012 (UTC)

Actually, he escaped because the Elements of Harmony had switched hooves and the spell made by Luna and Celestia had slowly been deteriorating ever since Night Mare Moon's defeat. Although the CMC's fighting might've given him the final drops of "chaos-juice" to break free it was mostly because the elements had reset themselves to new wielders. Is Discord actually evil?[]

Having seen a video by the youtube user bronydanceparty i dont think he is. give yor presonal views but no trolling

oh and if you want to find this video simply type in [PMV] monster music video

yours dexterousfred

Yeah, he's evil. Although he does acts that others could find enjoyment out of (Pinkie loves chocolate) he went out of his way to make it so ALL the mane six could use their element, where just one would ruin their power. He also must have caused a plethra of hardships before Luna and Celestia first imprisoned him.

I don't know, I think it's more a case of Blue and Orange Morality than anything else, really. Discord isn't really evil in the same way that many of the Trickster Gods weren't evil; they simply have a radically different morality code that we don't understand. In fact, he reminds me a great deal of Loki who was a pest at his worst (before he killed Baldur). With that in mind, I submit that he just took one of his tricks too far, and the sisters crammed him into a statue. Illyrias Acolyte 21:12, May 4, 2012 (UTC)

From what I gathered, Discord views everything around him as nothing more than tools for him to play with and change for his own personal amusement. He's kind of like the kid with the magnifying glass who burns ants: he simply believes they and their values, emotions, etc are so far below him that there is nothing wrong with destroying them just for a cheap laugh. Since the show is from the ponies POV, then yes. Discord is incredibly, 100% evil with absolutely no redeeming characteristics to be displayed whatsoever. Look at how he acts when Fluttershy resists his mindrape: he briefly looses his goofball mentality and gets pretty damned angry, and it didn't take a whole lot to push him to that. Also, toward the end when the mane 6 confronts him and he uses his powers to pull them all into the air in front of him: It's implied he was basically going to destroy them right then and there, had Twilight not surprised and intrigued him by putting up the shield and rescuing them. While it's true that he has a playful and almost childish personality, that doesn't mean that he's not evil at the same time. Danieltepeskraus 17:28, June 30, 2012 (UTC)

Is Discord evil? Maybe? I find it hard to answer this question because I see him as a very confusing character (in canon and fanfics I've read and even in my own fics). So, I've decided to sort out the good and bad of Discord from what I believe to be his beginning. In the beginning stuff happened and humans appeared. With humans as the first sentient beings in existence, so too did Disord begin his existence. Discord caused humanity to have the trait of sin when he convinced the first woman to eat the forbidden fruit. EVIL As time went on, Discord grew in strength and power and had a stronger influence on the human race. This influence eventually lead to the first murder. EVIL Millenia passed and he grew bored of being overly powerful so he created something equal to his power: The Elements of Harmony. GOOD(?)* Eventually Humankind found the Elements and used their power to imprison Discord in stone (he had made them to be able to neutralize him but not kill him). After a few more millenia, he broke free because the humans could not maintain the harmony and a massive war engulfed the whole world. He found interest in this war and gave humans the idea for more powerful weapons to make it more "interesting." NEUTRAL** Come the end ofthe first world war, he put an idea into the mind of a man that started the second world war and ended with the deaths of many. EVIL When the second war had ended, he noticed something that intrigued him: computers and technology. He started to assist the scientific field in making more advanced techniology. GOOD This advancement in technology lead to the invention of the LHC at CERN. By this time he had grown bored of humanity so he decided to kill them off except for those who had been smart enough to seal themselves in stasis chambers. EVIL When each of the 100 humans exited their chamber, he wrecked havic on them in the most creative ways immaginable. EVIL With the absence of humans, other animals had the chance to grow to sentience and eveolve to be stronger. GOOD Species such as griffons, dragons, and many more became sentient. However, Discord wanted a species that could stand a chance against him so he went back in time and put the idea into a scientists head to create alicorns that could roam the earth after humans. GOOD(?)* He soon realised that he had designed the alicorns to be too powerful so he split half of them into the other three ponies and made the rest of them changelings leaving only one male and one female. EVIL He went into hiding to let events play out, giving each of the Elements (except Magic) to five of his most trusted companions forming the Cult of Random Shady Nachos I. Centuries passed and the Elements were gathered again by Floriana and Animia (the younger sisters of Celestia and Luna) along with their cousin Clover the Clever to help ward off an oncoming threat. Discord came out of hiding and some stuff happened in my fic that would be classified as NEUTRAL*** It was later revealed that Discord had kept one human alive and in stasis until the time when the ponies had a stable community so that he could release the human on the world EVIL(?)* And some more stuff happens that I haven't quite worked out the details of yet. Doing a quick talley that comes to 7 EVIL, 4 GOOD, and 2 NEUTRAL. Based on this analysis, I would classify him as "neutral leaning evil."

  • these are questionable because they are good on the surface but they have evil-ish intentions
    • weapons are considered neutral because they are used for both good and evil
      • I say neutral for this because my characters (and myself, honestly) are unsure of his true intent

May the stars guide you to your destiny. Flaming Pulsar 11:11 pm 31 December 2013 Happy New Years!!

What becomes of the stone Discord?[]

We never see him following him getting turned to stone the second time. One guy said he broke in half when he fell over but I don't believe that as we never got any evidence to it. What do you think is done with him after he is turned back to stone? Any theories? (Or will he be making a full non-flashback reappearance in Season 3?) Ghostkaiba297 (talk) 00:34, September 2, 2012 (UTC)

I like to think that they moved him to a secure location where no one could physically get to him. Does anybody else think that he got free because of the Cutie Mark Crusader's argument?

--Who would win in a fight between you and yo mama? (talk) 03:23, September 4, 2012 (UTC)

I believe I heard somewhere that Discord will indeed make a reappearance in S3, though I can't recall where I heard this. I also did hear that Discord was freed due to their argument. He may be freed again with another argument, or maybe he might figure out how to free himself purposely. Guess we'll just have to wait and see... The sky's not the limit, but our point of view.

I could honestly see Celestia sending Discord to the moon. Or maybe Luna, she seemed to fly from the moon in A Canterlot Wedding Part 1, except she's not trapped there anymore. Before she was imprisoned IN the moon, but could be able to go ON the moon now. Anyway, Celestia will want to make sure he can't break free again if the Mane 6 ever lose connection to the Elements. Of course I've also speculated that Celestia banished the Hydra of Froggybottom Bog and the Parasprites from Fillydelphia to the moon, so one can only imagine what they'd do to him there...

Aerostar, John de Lancie said he will be doing a voice in Season 3, but has not specified whether it will be Discord or another character, maybe that's what you heard. Although he does have a distintive voice, so it would be hard for him to do a different character. I think it likely either he will return or a backstory will be shown.

And yes, I do not think it's coincidence that Discord broke out right after the Cutie Mark Crusaders' argument. I think the seal weakens once the ones who cast it lose connection to the Elements, then all it takes is an act of chaos to be performed in front of him. Did Celestia and Luna lose connection when Luna became Nightmare Moon a thousand years ago, or was it when the Mane 6 became connected to them? Ghostkaiba297 (talk) 04:13, September 27, 2012 (UTC)

I think he (John de Lancie) will voice Discord, and it'll be for a flashback of when he ruled Equestria, and the episode will be about Celestia and Luna and how they discovered the Elements and defeated Discord, and then were crowned royalty.

--Who would win in a fight between you and yo mama? (talk) 04:34, September 27, 2012 (UTC)

Anypony who knows what Keep Calm and Flutter On will know now that Celestia kept Discord around and eventually assigns the Mane 6 to reform him. How they're going to do such a thing I don't know, but we'll see. Ghostkaiba297 (talk) 07:25, December 29, 2012 (UTC)

Where did Discord come from?[]

He didn't always exist, because he wasn't present or at least active during the founding of Equestria, and that predates his first known appearance, and it doesn't make sense to me that a being of chaos would exist since the beginning of time without being active for the first several millennia of it's life. If he'd had always existed, then shouldn't he have been causing chaos since the dawn of time? This leads me to believe that Discord came into existence later, and if that's true, then how? I have a theory. Discord has body parts from 9 different animals, right? Well, what if Discord has 9 parents? What if in the My Little Pony universe, when 9 animals mate at the same time, it makes a draconequus?

Also, Cheerilee referred to Discord as a draconequus, meaning that there were or have been more than one.

--Who would win in a fight between you and yo mama? (talk) 03:23, September 4, 2012 (UTC)

The creators have hinted there is a bigger villain who was involved with Nightmare Moon and Discord. Ghostkaiba297 (talk) 21:06, March 17, 2013 (UTC)

Star Swirl the Bearded = Discord?[]

  1. John de Lancie (Discord's voice actor) is confirmed to return in season 3.
  2. Whenever Discord hypnotized one of the main 6, stars swirling around appeared in the background.
  3. When Discord hypnotized Rainbow Dash, silhouette of the maze was shown with its center being a swirl.
  4. Whenever Discord disappears or makes things disappear, stars appear.
  5. Both Star Swirl the Bearded and Discord have a beard.
  6. Cheerilee stated that Discord has a pony head.
  7. Discord traveled back in time with Twilight, and Star Swirl is the inventor of time travel spells.
  8. There is a huge mysterious hourglass in Star Swirl the Bearded wing counting down to something.
  9. Luna's book has stars and a swirl. During the Failure Song, there is a tower with these same markings on the sharp left (when Twilight sings "I wasn't prepared for this" for the first time).
  10. Twilight played as Clover the Clever who was Star Swirl's apprentice.
  11. Twilight dressed as Star Swirl in Luna Eclipsed.
  12. Twilight said that Star Swirl is father of the amniomorphic spell. Word "amniomorphic" sounds like it has something to do with morphing (transforming) things. Obviously, Discord looks like a product of multiple, successful or not, transformations.
  13. Discord's theater seats have stars on the edges.
  14. Two of the three episodes next to the Crystal Empire two-parter on "Adventures in the Crystal Empire" DVD mention Star Swirl the Bearded (Luna Eclipsed and It's About Time).
  15. Discord ruled over Equestria sometime in the past. Equestria's founding must have taken place before his reign, as Celestia and Luna were not around yet. That was also the time when Star Swirl lived. Then he would have been corrupted to Discord and took over Equestria, and then the regal sisters appeared and defeated him.
  16. Twilight's "next level of studies" might not be under Luna, but actually Discord.
  17. Discord never had a friend before Fluttershy, and Star Swirl also didn't understand friendship as said by Celestia in Magical Mystery Cure.
  18. Discord appeared on (and supposedly crashed) the Star Swirl the Bearded Traveling Museum.

Considering those facts, what do you think? Xeoxer (talk) 15:08, December 16, 2012 (UTC)

Cheerilee said Horse head not a pony head I rather listen to reason rather then listen to nonsense 15:18, December 16, 2012 (UTC)

Lol okay. For one thing, what does Twilight have to do with it? And for another, most of those are very vague or irrelevant. I haven't looked to see but it sounds like the stars are just decorations or effects. I don't see any proof of a connection. I could be wrong, but we don't know anything about this upcoming stuff so anyone could be. And Doopliss, could you at least try to get your facts right? If you'd rather not listen to nonsense, as your sig says, you must be covering your ears whenever you post... ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 15:22, December 16, 2012 (UTC)

His head is horse shape

Does that shape look like a pony shape head to you?->I rather listen to reason rather then listen to nonsense 15:26, December 16, 2012 (UTC)
Cheerilee: This creature is called a draconequus. He has the head of a pony and a body of all sorts of other things. What do you suppose that represents? Xeoxer (talk) 15:52, December 16, 2012 (UTC)
WellI was wrong with what Cheerilee said, but she gave a wrong describtion due to the fact the shape is different and this is coming from his apperance on his page. "The word "draconequus" is composed of the Latin "draco" and "equus", meaning "dragon-horse". Discord is a combination of many body parts from different creatures. His head is horse-like, much different from the other" I rather listen to reason rather then listen to nonsense 15:58, December 16, 2012 (UTC)
Even if so. Don't you think magic could do that? Look at "Star Wars": magic has turned the chancellor's face into an ugly antic. Or "Harry Potter": as a boy, Voldemort was very handsome, but after he used black magic, he turned into that guy with snake-like face. --Linneer (talk) 21:53, December 18, 2012 (UTC)
Star Wars and Harry Potter is an entirely different sorts of fiction than MLP; and "magic" was never featured in Star Wars, it's more in the lines of "Psychic" based powers. They don't really apply here. We really won't know until it has been proven, despite the circumstantial evidence. Yo buddy, still alive? One more piece of evidence. Celestia tells Twilight that Star Swirl the Bearded did not understood friendship like she does. Discord did not know anything about friendship since he never had friends until Fluttershy became his friend. The Americanized Brony03:15, February 17, 2013 (UTC)
Doopliss you do realize ponies are simply small horses, right? While I do agree that Discord's facial structure is elongated compared to normal ponies in the show, I don't think we should say that means it is more horselike, unless of course you could point out a "horse" character in the show with a similarly elongated face. Being a chimera, Discord's facial elongation could be a result of some other non-equine species, like perhaps a goat or antelope, based on the shape of his horns. talk2ty 17:51, June 2, 2014 (UTC)
I rather like the hypothesis that Discord is Starswirl's Frankenstein The Steed In The Moon (talk) 18:55, January 9, 2014 (UTC)
Zoom on Star Swirl poster and Discord S4E11
What does everyone think of the blatant placing of Discord next to a Star Swirl poster and then having him crash a Star Swirl fan convention in the 25 January 2014 episode Three's a Crowd. Is it possible the writers read the Wikia's speculation pages and they're teasing us? talk2ty 17:44, June 2, 2014 (UTC)

Jossed, According to the book, Journal Of The Two Sisters, Star Swirl and Celestia were in the cave where the tree was located. Since the sisters found the tree during the reign of Discord, this is evidence that Discord and Star Swirl the Bearded are not the same person.

Except that chapter books and comics are not canon. Two examples of conflict are the forces behind Nightmare Moon and Daring Do series author. Xeoxer (talk) 21:52, February 8, 2015 (UTC)
Additionally, that information can just be interpreted differently. They didn't necessarily discover it during the reign of discord, they just went to it. The journal seems to imply that Star Swirl was the one to discover it, if I remember correctly. Meaning that the events in the journal probably happened first, and the reign of Discord came later.

talk With the DD books, there is apparently another entity that could cause Eternal Night just like Nightmare Moon. And Ahuizotl is apparently a larger life spanned creature.

This appears to be well and truly busted, since the solicitation for Shadow Play, Part I indicates that Star Swirl's been trapped in limbo for 1000 years. --Kilmarnock228 (talk) 09:24, September 28, 2017 (UTC)

Yeah, pretty much. Too bad, I was a big fan of this theory. Xannot Talk 11:36, September 28, 2017 (UTC)
Well, you're not alone; I'm a bit of a Classic Whovian, and I personally liked the idea of Star Swirl being a Time pony who eventually regenerated into Dr. Hooves.--Kilmarnock228 (talk) 21:41, September 29, 2017 (UTC)

Discord turned Luna into Nightmare Moon[]

Remember when Discord laughed at how Celestia and Luna used the Element against him? Why? He would know what they are capable of, and how he can't beat the Elements of Harmony. So would he laugh? Simple. It was because he knew he had already won. Because he was the last villain Celestia and Luna encountered just before Luna became NMM. If it was Sombra, she would've turned a few days later. But she clearly didn't. And Celestia and banished Tirek, but he doesn't have the power corrupt somepony. Discord, on the hand, does. He has such power. He used it on the Mane 6. So he must have done it. It would even explain why he laughed when the Elements were used on him the first time. The second time, he looked on in fear, because he knew he had lost. --User:Nighlocktheawesome

An interesting theory, though I don't recall there being any direct statements as to the order in which Celestia and Luna dealt with Sombra, Tirek, and Discord; the ancient threats are all just vaguely referenced as having been a menace "a thousand years ago." You do make a point in that Discord is the only villain confirmed to have the ability to corrupt/bend the minds of others to his will-while Sombra certainly had the magic to mess with pony's minds, we haven't seen any indication of him actually using full on mind control unless that's what's intended by the green eyes of his army in The Cutie Re-Mark - Part 1. There's just a couple problems I see with him being the one to cause Luna's transformation:
  • Luna's transformation into Nightmare Moon doesn't really resemble Discord's power over members of the Mane 6 at all-not only did she not lose color or anything, but her actions as Nightmare Moon seem to reflect a darkened personality rather than a reversed one. Of course, it's entirely possible that he could have done something different to Luna, but it raises the question:
  • What does Discord gain from Luna turning into Nightmare Moon? Sure, he loves to cause chaos and he would undoubtedly have loved to cause a rift between the two sisters, but it seems like a hollow victory when he's still eternally petrified. Unless Nightmare Moon killing/banishing Celestia and/or her own corruption would have severed their link to the Elements of Harmony, as seems to have been the case when the Mane 6 took them up in the Princesses' stead, how's he supposed to enjoy the chaos while being trapped forever?
  • Finally, the fact exists that Discord's powers-at least when they're oriented towards chaos-are utterly nullified by the Elements of Harmony. When the Mane 6 froze hm back into statue form, all the chaos he had unleashed was instantly reverted. Unless he had some other magic that the Elements couldn't or didn't affect, it doesn't seem likely that anything he did to Luna could hold sway once he was imprisoned.
Honestly, the most likely explanation for his laughter-simple though it may be-seems to have been the Plunderseeds. He knew that they would capture Celestia and Luna and begin attacking the Tree of Harmony, and it seems entirely likely that if you killed the tree from which the Elements sprang the Elements themselves would "die", losing all power and thus enabling Discord's escape. Given that the Elements are one of only a handful of forces to have any real power against Discord-the only others I can think of being Tirek's uber-charged magic-stealing and Chrysalis' throne-it would seem likely that this would leave him pretty much free to terrorize Equestria as we wished. In fact, Celestia and Luna using the Elements would play into this scheme, as without their magic the Tree would not have the strength to resist the Plunderseeds-a concept that Discord would undoubtedly find quite hilarious, that the objects by which he would supposedly be defeated would in fact contribute to his ultimate victory.--Kilmarnock228 (talk) 08:04, September 28, 2017 (UTC)

Discord Relationships[]

I don't think there's much more in terms of Fluttercord episodes that we need to see. We need to see Discord expand his horizons some more! We saw him form a friendship with Spike and Big Mac in Dungeons & Discords, and then Starlight and Trixie in season 6 finale! I can't really say much about him and Thorax though because they never really had any sort of special interaction - not like when Discord and Trixie teased each other in the finale, and him wanting Starlight and him to be roomies in the season 7 premiere. He could use more interactions with other characters! I mean we all want to see him and Trixie have an episode together next season! Don't deny it! We want it! ;) --Mega Sean 45 (talk) 22:21, September 29, 2017 (UTC)

Meeting another Draconquues[]

I'm sure Discord isn't the only one of his kind. It would be really cool if we got to see Discord meeting another one of his kind! This would give him alot of development! It would basically be present Discord meeting season 2 Discord! So many possibilities can happen! If the writers can't think much about what else to do with Discord, this is one option! ;) --Mega Sean 45 (talk) 22:21, September 29, 2017 (UTC)

It certainly is an interesting idea-the fact that he has a species name does seem to imply that there are-or were-more. The question is, are they all chaos-based entities? Or is Discord something of an Alicorn equivalent among his kind?--Kilmarnock228 (talk) 02:10, October 5, 2017 (UTC)
