The death is mentioned at least twice in this episode. First, when Rainbow scolds Lightning Dust, she says, that her friends could die. Later, in Spitfire's office, Rainbow uses an idiom „działanie po trupach” (roughly: "going on despite dead bodies").
The tongue twister, that the foals have to say during the race is „W Szczebrzeszynie chrząszcz brzmi w trzcinie” (In Szczebrzeszyn a bettle buzzes in the reeds), a well-known line from Jan Brzechwa's poem „Chrząszcz”
As a side effect, a real life Polish town of Szczebrzeszyn is mentioned.

The peanut butter hoof joke („Kopytka z masłem orzechowym? Fuj, za żadne skarby świata!”) is based on the homonymity of two meanings of „kopytka”: "Little hooves" and a kind of Polish dish (it wouldn't taste well with a peanut butter).
