Octavia is the placeholder name of a background Earth pony who appears in The Best Night Ever and Sweet and Elite. She has a dark gray mane and tail, a light gray coat, and light purple eyes, with the same eye design as Rarity and the spa ponies, except for the iris.

AppearancesEdit

She plays a cello as part of a four-pony musical ensemble at the Grand Galloping Gala in the episode The Best Night Ever. She retains a calm, dignified expression when in costume; except when Pinkie Pie disturbs her. At Pinkie's request, the orchestra plays the Pony Pokey. Octavia eventually falls over when Pinkie tries to make her play faster.

Octavia appears briefly in Sweet and Elite in the garden party scene, playing with a different musical ensemble. William Anderson, the show's composer, has relayed to Equestria Daily that the music playing in the scene features a harp, two violins, and a cello, which pegs Octavia as a cellist.^[1] The show's director, Jayson Thiessen, figures the instrument is a cello as it's "more sophisticated and appropriate for the gala".^[2]

A Flash image of Octavia was added to the Hasbro website's Card Creator game around mid-February 2012, named "WhomeverThisIs.swf".^[3]

Octavia's character design is reused with a different color scheme in Luna Eclipsed. Her coat is yellow, her mane and tail are dark blue, and her eyes are light blue. She has the same treble clef cutie mark as Octavia, except that hers is light blue instead of pink. She plays the fiddle in the a pose similar to the one used in The Best Night Ever, though her hooves are slightly altered, grasping the bow and neck of the instrument with the hooves instead of the fetlocks, or "wrists". The rest of the band similarly uses the designs and poses from The Best Night Ever, with different color schemes.

She plays A BASS. not a cello. (I should know because I play cello). You have to sit down to play cello anyway, and the cello whould not be taller than you.
If she plays a bass, why is her cutiemark a treble clef?

With your last remark in this comment, I can't tell which side you are fighting for. Anyways, I believe it was dubbed a cello given that in the small combo, there is a tuba, which means they would not have two bass instruments in a small combo like that. That and the fact that even upright basses do not go over your head, I believe it was discussed to be due to the small size of ponies in general. I may be entirely wrong, but until you can find relevant proof that that is definitely a bass, it will stay a cello in the article.

The stand for a bass and cello are very similar though, as they are both extendable. For all we know it could just be retracted because of the height issue.

1. Production crew have confirmed it is a cello. See article for citations.
2. You are assuming ponies are of the same dimensions as human beings and therefore must abide by our rule of sitting down or standing up to play a cello.

She plays the chello, as confirmed by the artist of the song playing in the garden partin in "Sweet and Elite" (As she is playing in the party there) So no more arguing. It is a Chello. That is that.

It is a bass sir. I know, I've played cello for six years. It's easy for someone who doesn't play an orchestra instrument to get them confused. I didn't even know a viola existed before I joined orchestra and I still can't tell the difference visually. It might have been recorded with a cello, but it is most certainly a bass.

As someone who has played extreamly hardcore songs where I felt the need to move around, I can say that, as a human, you can play the cello standing up. It has to be a fullsized cello though.

Similar looks; she may very well be, in the fandom, but as far as the show's concerned, she's not. I'm fairly certain we got confirmation from one of the higher-ups that Octavia and Pinkie's sister in her flashback are two different ponies.

I believe on the part that Octavia had blue mane and a yellow coat, it was just a costume. The blue eyes, however, I think were either colored contacts or a 'minor' color change.

This is not Inky Pie. If you look at Inky Pie the coat color is off by a couple of shades. And in this world of Equestria ponies have the same coat color as a filly as they do when they are adults.
