As the new year of 2017 commences, here's a list of things I expect to see coinciding with my Season 7 checklist.

1. New places in Equestria

Cutie marks floating over Ponyville S5E1

There's still some places in Equestria that nopony has ever gone to. One of them is Fillydelphia, a city that was mentioned since at least Season 2. I'm sure this season, somepony's gonna have to go there, usually by a summoning from the Cutie Map, either Applejack and Rainbow Dash, or Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy.

2. Another birthday episode

Main cast form a conga line S1E25

We haven't seen any birthday episodes since Season 5, so this season would be a great time for another one. I certainly know Pinkie will be around to throw it!

Question is, whose birthday should it be? Even I don't know on that one.

3. No Trixie

Pinkie Pie getting mad at Trixie S3E5

Other than cameo appearances, I really don't want to see Trixie much this season. I mean, she did befriend Starlight in Season 6, but is still an "enemy" of the Mane Six since Season 1. She even pulled out Pinkie's mouth in one episode! ...Which of course, was temporarily deserved anyway because Pinkie had the second-most dialogue and screen time so far in the series when that episode premiered.

4. Returning family members

In every season since Season 4, Maud Pie has appeared in at least one episode. In Season 5, we've seen the entire Pie family as well. And in Season 6, the Shy family was introduced. In addition, Maud Pie has had episodes with Applejack (in Hearthbreakers) and Rarity (The Gift of the Maud Pie) as well. Seeing as though Rainbow Dash has no known family whatsoever (Scootaloo doesn't count), that leaves Fluttershy's family (that includes Zephyr Breeze) to have an episode with the Pie family.

Remember, both families have similar traits, whereas one sibling in each family is the polar opposite of their sisters (Pinkie Pie and Zephyr Breeze, in this case).

5. The Cloudsdale flight school reunion

Rainbow Dash Fluttershy Goggles Point S02E22

Spike mentioned that Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy had a Cloudsdale flight school reunion during the events of P.P.O.V. (Pony Point of View). Maybe there should be a FlutterDash episode about this, with Scootaloo around with them.

6. Gabby makes friends with Pinkie Pie

As you know, Gabby is a griffon like Gilda who has a very cheerful and excitable personality, almost like Pinkie Pie's. Not only that, Pinkie Pie got more screen time than Rainbow Dash in both episodes featuring Gilda, who is also a griffon. And even more, Gabby becomes part of the Cutie Mark Crusaders in their LAST episode so far focusing on them. For all these reasons, Pinkie Pie has a great chance of finally having a little sister figure herself in the Crusaders, and more importantly, a Pinkie/CMC episode, something we've never had in the history of My Little Pony.

...Though I do doubt Gabby will be a new student in the Ponyville Schoolhouse.

Also keep in mind that all other Mane Six ponies have already used up their major roles with the Cutie Mark Crusaders and from now on can only have minor appearances, cameos or absences in any later CMC episodes: Fluttershy as of Season 2, Twilight Sparkle as of Season 5, and Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity all together as of Season 7.

7. Gummy and Angel

If you recall in the Season 5 episode, Slice of Life, Gummy had narrative dialogue in one scene. On the other hand, the ponies' pets haven't appeared much in Season 6. Perhaps this season, there will be an episode focusing on Gummy and Angel, where they both get narrative dialogue, and for the fact that they're the mostly seen pets in earlier seasons.

Note: This is the third idea for a PinkieShy/FlutterPie episode I predicted for this season.

8. Lord Tirek

Queen Chrysalis was the major villain in Seasons 2 and 6, and because King Sombra is "dead", that leaves Lord Tirek to be the possible main villain for this season, as he was locked in a cage in his defeat in Season 4. Sometime during the events of Seasons 5-6, he might have figured out a way to get out, which is another reason why he should be next in line as the major villain.

Actually, it's confirmed that Shadowlock will be the new villain for Season 7, exactly like in Issues 51-53 of the IDW comics, so I guess this idea is now no longer valid.

9. More appearances and dialogue for Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy

Fluttershy and Pinkie pleasantly surprised S6E18

Pinkie Pie will need to get more screen time and dialogue this season than this past season. As you may not have noticed, Pinkie had the second most of both of these throughout Season 5, after Twilight Sparkle, and was therefore at the highest risk of losing some of it to the other ponies (i.e. Rarity and Rainbow Dash) in Season 6. The writers, of course, didn't quite put enough of the other characters so far in the show's new era, and had to make it all up for those characters for the next season. This is exactly what happened between Seasons 5-6.

Also, Fluttershy hasn't been appearing much in either of these seasons (though she did have two half-focused appearances in The Cutie Map - Part 2 and Make New Friends But Keep Discord), but in two earlier seasons (1 and 4), actually did even better than Pinkie Pie. Which means in Season 7, for the first time in Pony history, they'll both do well and appear more than at least one Mane Six pony all season.

10. More Starlight Glimmer than Applejack, Rainbow Dash and/or Rarity

Starlight Glimmer ID S6E2     Rainbow Dash, Rarity and AJ ready to race S6E14

For this season, I would like to see Starlight have more screen time and dialogue than any or all of Applejack, Rainbow Dash, and Rarity. In Season 5 (her first season), she only had 3% (nearly 4%) of all dialogue -- that's less than every Mane Six pony and Spike -- all within four episodes: both the two-part stories. Then in Season 6, three Mane Six ponies again got more dialogue than her while all the other characters didn't -- Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Applejack, each of whom got about 9% of all dialogue for that season (with Rarity at almost 9.5%), while Starlight got 8%.

If Starlight returns in Season 7 (chances are, she probably will), at least one of either Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity (or more interestingly, all three of them) will need to have less dialogue than her during the entire season.

Goals for this season:

  • Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity each with not more than 8% of all the dialogue
  • Pinkie Pie with at least 7.5% of all the dialogue
  • Fluttershy with at least 6.5% of all the dialogue
  • Spike with not more than 6% of all the dialogue
  • Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Rarity's total confirmations at no higher than 8 episodes
  • Pinkie Pie and Fluttershy's total confirmations at least 7 episodes

Well, I guess that's it. What do you guys think?
