My Little Pony Friendship is Magic Wiki

I would highly recommend it. They're a lot like MLP - Mostly suitable for the kids yet containing scenes or references that you only get when you're older. Having seen lots of them when I was younger, I got to experience those moments where you understand some of the stuff for the first time that you don't get when you're younger. All in all, fun for all viewers unless they just don't like animated. (Which I'm sure isn't a problem for anypony here)

Anyway, it seems a lot of people here haven't seen any animated Disney movies based on certain comments I've been seeing (usually on King Sombra's page), so here's some recommendations, if you can find them:

  • Aladdin (and you'd probably better see its sequel, Return of Jafar, as well: it's not quite as good but is still pretty decent, and offers more closure regarding Jafar and Iago)
  • Beauty and the Beast (though some of you might have seen the live-action one already)
  • The Lion King (and its sequel, Simba's Pride)
  • Hercules
  • The Hunchback of Notre Dame
  • The Little Mermaid
  • The Great Mouse Detective
  • Mulan
  • Tarzan
  • The Princess and the Frog
  • Oliver & Company (if you like cats)
  • The Rescuers: Down Under
  • Sleeping Beauty - Is mostly kinda slow, but has an amazing final battle with Maleficent at the end that's pretty close to Twilight vs. Tirek
  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs - the first ever Disney movie (though as it's old it can get slow at times)
  • Wreck-It Ralph

I'd also recommend watching G1, or at least the Tirek episodes (Rescue at Midnight Castle) coz they were the inspiration for the pilot episodes of FiM, and also the original Tirek. IMO he's more menacing than his G4 counterpart, and just as evil.

Frozen... Despite its popularity in merchandise, it's not that great, though not awful either. Saw it once, don't really need to again.

I also liked Atlantis, but it wasn't that popular, so maybe not that one.

Oh, and a few non-Disney animated films that have a similar style and are just as good as some of their best:

  • The Swan Princess (original animated trilogy, the CGI ones aren't quite as good, and you might recognize Odette's transformation from Sonic Rainboom)
  • Quest for Camelot (which Lauren Faust was involved in but she doesn't like to talk about it)
  • Anastasia
