(Foreword: If the paragraphs below are too long for you to want to read, skip ahead to the poll)
I had hoped that the subject of the show's Chrysalis would be put behind us aside from casual mention and her role in The Cutie Remark. However, ever since the appearance of something resembling a changeling in the background of The Crystalling, there has been speculation that she will return. And WatchMojo said that a lot of people will want to see it because she is not confirmed to be dead, imprisoned, or banished, though if she never does return we can just assume in our headcanons she either fell to her death, was eaten by a graboid in the Badlands, or is simply living in exile. There are the comics, of course, but they seem to be in their own separate universe, especially regarding dragons.
Now, it goes without saying there's no need to debate her status here, everypony's views on that are old news (except to newcomers, basically I think she fell to her death but almost everyone else doesn't). So, that won't even be part of the poll.
The big question is, do they even want to bring Chrysalis back? They had a perfect opportunity to use her human counterpart in Friendship Games by making her the principal of Crystal Prep, which a lot of us would want to see. Instead they chose Principal Cinch, a new character that holds the title of worst villain, unless you count the snowstorm in The Crystalling which you technically can't coz it's not alive. The first time we ever saw Chrysalis again after A Canterlot Wedding was in an altered future in The Cutie Remark where it showed what would have been if she had taken over Equestria.
Furthermore, if they do bring her back, they run the risk of ruining her character from the way we've seen her before, even though they did a good job with her in The Cutie Remark. Personally, I think they intend to leave her fate ambiguous so we can either make up our own minds or go by the comics (just like they're not revealing what caused the Ashlands timeline).
If Chrysalis does return, then this does raise the question of how she is defeated this time. Obviously if she returns it means she's immune to long falls like in the comics, so... (imitating Nesbitt from Yu-Gi-Oh) That won't work again!
Death - Despite Katie Cook being sure that Hasbro would never have allowed her to kill Chrysalis in a comic where they did allow her to have her kill a kitten in bloody fashion, which is 100 times less family-friendly than magically disintegrating Chrysalis would have been, I'm sure if they saw Chrysalis vaporized somehow - Either with the effects of Nightmare Moon's banishment, Midnight Sparkle's redemption, the destruction of the Dazzlings' astral projections, or, of course, the actual death of King Sombra - it would be highly appropriate given what a dark villain she is and that darker things have appeared in the show (particularly in The Cutie Remark). Besides, Hasbro let Heather Nuhfer kill Nightmare Moon in the following arc. Villains can be killed anywhere, even in kid-friendly shows (if you need confirmation, ask what's left of G1's Tirek and Lavan), provided they're the kind of villain Chrysalis certainly is and that it's not too violent or graphic, and since the show killed Sombra, why not Chrysalis? This is what I'd hope for if we see her again, because although she's my favorite villain, she also caused the single most depressing moment in the show.
Imprisonment - If she's anything like she is in the comics, it's almost impossible to keep this changeling imprisoned. Locking her in some sort of cell or room wouldn't suffice, and even sending her to Tartarus through the gate could likely be escapable, seeing as how Tirek escaped in an extremely weakened state (though he was there for a thousand years). Any of the above imprisonments would, on the flipside, open possibility of her return, but as the show is nearing its end they might not want to bring her back so soon. However, if the Mane 6 can turn Rainbow Power on and off instead of it being a one-time thing (which can be debated here), they can blast her to Tartarus powerless and imprisoned in a cage just like they did to Tirek. This would prevent her from ever escaping, and plus, I could apply my Tirek headcanon to her. I will not be satisfied with anything less than this - she may not be officially dead but she's permanently imprisoned and will suffer for the rest of her life.
Redemption - They said they didn't want to reform every villain and Chrysalis doesn't strike me as the redeemable type (though I know many are sympathetic towards her and think she was only doing what she needed to do to survive, but the one friendly changeling we saw kinda proves otherwise), but if they neither want to kill her nor have the Mane 6 use Rainbow Power again, this is my last resort as I'd prefer it over the only other option. One thing they'd have to do if they go down this path is make clear the comics are set in a separate universe because their Chrysalis is pure irredeemable evil (though I heard Gauntlet of Fire already did that, though I'm not sure what part of it was inconsistent). Of course, reforming Chrysalis would be an unwise move because people here are getting tired of redemptions after Gilda, Diamond Tiara, Silver Spoon, Starlight Glimmer, and the comics' Sombra.
Edit: Although if they do bring her back this season, so far only odd seasons have featured villain redemptions in any way, although this pattern could break just like the villain gender pattern and the hiatus pattern.
Karma houdini - If they absolutely have to bring Chrysalis back, then whatever else happens, I do not want her to simply fly away like she did in the comics. She must either face a permanent punishment for her crimes, or else change her ways. The show would be too dark if she didn't. I heard a rumor that the villain of a certain upcoming film is going to get this after completely ruining the heroes, and the future of that franchise is making me a little edgy these days if you've noticed I seem to be posting too much stuff like this. (Edit: Nope, he gets imprisoned, and the heroes aren't doing as bad as I thought)
Then there's also the question of when she'll return if she does. Will it be a one-shot like Discord? Will it be another two-parter? Or are they saving her for the movie, either as Cosmos's minion or in place of him?
So, without any further ado...
