    Song ranking

    February 23, 2013 by Tulipclaymore

I'm not completely happy with this ranked list of major songs, since the songs span so many different styles/genres and aren't always easily comparable. I may split up the list into several smaller ones in the future.

Not ranked: Songs shorter than 45 seconds (an arbitrary limit designed to include "So Many Wonders", I will admit). Reprises are counted as a continuation of the first appearance of the song (marked with an asterisk). Songs with melodies not composed by Daniel Ingram or heavily inspired by pre-existing material are marked with an obelisk.

We occasionally hear claims that one character or another is treated unfairly by the writers by being given fewer episodes centred around them. Is that true? Let's find out:

(Note: The table reflects my opinion regarding who is the center of a specific episode. In some episodes, two characters obviously share the spotlight; they are marked "shared". In others, it's not quite as obvious, but a case might still be made; these episode are marked "I" and "II" (for primary protagonist and secondary protagonist, respectively). For unaired episodes, I have entered my best guess.)

I'll probably do this for all upcoming episodes, and may or may not add previous ones.

This is an exercise in unfair pigeon-holing, overgeneralising, picking and choosing my data points, and unfounded assumptions based on not enough information. I'm therefore making this public so people can laugh at me when I get things wrong. I've played this game intermittently all season, and I've been wrong a lot. Most recently, I variously predicted the writer for The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000 to be Dave Polsky (because the synopsis sounded far-fetched and flimsy) and Chris Savino (outsiders threatening a main character).

    A Friend in Deed
    Dave Polsky.
Rationale: The synopsis sounds a bit thin, and to be honest, both his other episodes are a bit on the weak side plot-wise. Polsky has previously written an episode in which Pinkie, whi…
