Author's Note

This chapter came out later than I had expected. I suck at deadlines. Also this is an unedited version of the chapter since I have yet to send it to Hysterical, who is my editor. Also this is the first chapter than will contain a special template you will see at the end of the chapter.

Begin Chapter 4

(Celestia POV)

I thought that Candle’s description of UnknownProdigy was quite enough for me. He sounded like a pony straight from the depths of hell. Then, I saw him for the first time. He didn’t really look like much, a unicorn stallion with a dark blue pelt and a lighter blue mane. He was a smaller looking pony, a little smaller than Candle and Grovyle. Though he was small, he had quite a presence on that battlefield leaving everyone stunned by just being there. He had blood stained knives that I would not want to be on the wrong end of. He still looked alright until I heard him speak. His voice sounded like it had better days, being hoarse and gravelly. It was almost like knives running down rusted iron.

-

After Candle had returned from his conference with Unknown, he had a kind of distant look in his eyes, as if he had seen a ghost. “What did he talk about, Candle?” Grovyle asked, “You look kind of frazzled, are you ok?”

-

“I’m fine.” he said quickly, “We have more important things to attend to. Epicluna has called a meeting under a flag of peace for all those fighting in this unholy war. Unknown was just delivering a message that’s all.”

-

He tried to sound sincere, but his eyes told another story. I could tell by the way he held his eyes, that he was hiding something. Much like how a person tries to keep a straight face when they have a great hand. Something was eating at him, and I was going to find out sooner or later. I could not have a superb soldier lose his head in the middle of a war.

- Candle filled us in on all the details as we headed down the slope to the center of the battlefield. A group of ponies had gathered there already. I could see three different banners, for three different armies. I see the Lunar Republic banner, with their rather magnificent light blue, moon symbol against a dark blue background. Next to it a garish red banner with a rather gruesome image on it. The last had a very strange looking symbol on it. It looked like a white blops with a single staring eye that seemed to pierce your soul. “The Ninpundo banner.” Candle said, “I didn’t know they would actually be here.”

-

The look on Candle’s face was told me everything I needed to know. He was not pleased to see his old comrades. The armies formed a loose circle around the center where six ponies stood around a round table. Five seemed to be arguing, while the sixth just leaned against a post flipping a coin with his magic. When the sixth pony saw us he stopped flipping his coin and looked up. It was UnknownProdigy, in all his cocky glory. He walks over to the table and says, “Looky here, the Solars showed up. With a full fighting force too.”

-

All of the others at the table look over and see us standing there. A certain battle-scarred pony sneers at me, like I was the ugliest thing he had ever seen. I saw a rather familiar face, Epicluna. We hadn’t really had a great first meeting, after all she had tried to kill me. Another pony was by her side; one I had never seen before. “That’s Bluelighting,” Grovyle whispers in my ear, “She may not look it but she is a trained killer. Watch yourself.”

-

I can see what he means. She looks more on the smallish side with a lighter blue coat. Her main is a slightly darker blue and is streaked magenta. She looks like the kind of pony you would find healing ponies, not killing them. Those questions are all put to rest when I see what weapons she’s packing. What appears to be a marksman rifle is strapped across her back and she has two knives at her side that rival Unknown’s. I realize that she would have no problem using those knives to slay me on the battlefield. She wouldn’t just not care, she would probably enjoy it. I begin to wonder how such an innocent looking pony could be so ruthless. I lean over and whisper to Grovyle, “Who is that other pony, the one with all the scars?” I inquire.

-

“That is the Bunker Guy,” Groyvle answers, “Keep a long distance away from him if you can. He’s cold, calculated, and ruthless. If you say him in action during The War at the Rift, you would run crying home to your mommy. I’m not even sure Unknown can beat him head to head.”

-

After he finished talking I look back Bunker and see him staring at me while sharpening a knife. He seems to be eyeing me up, trying to find an appropriate place to stab me with it. To his right I see another pony standing a good distance to his right. He has a reptile green colored coat and a darker green mane. Behind him was another pony, this one was a bright blue with a bright orange mane. He appeared to have a crazy look in his eyes, as if he had seen a ghost. “So who are those two?” I ask Grovyle.

-

I hear Grovyle sigh, “Do I have to introduce you to everyone? Nevertheless, the green pony’s name is UglyTurtle he is one of the leaders of the Ninpundist religious group. Seeing him here worries me, as the last time he attended a fight like this, it turned into a country-wide war. The other pony is named Hystericaldomino. If you have been around him for a couple of seconds, you can see why they call him that. He’s you know…” Groyvle makes a cuckoo gesture with his hoof.

-

I look around trying find my sister. She doesn’t seem to be in the crowd of ponies. ‘Probably hiding in her base camp. That coward’ I think.

-

I immediately feel guilty for thinking like that. She was my sister after all. I then think about how she had tried to kill me. She didn’t even think I was worth her time, so she sent one of her pawns at me, instead of fighting me herself. She dared! Finally, Bluelighting walks forward and speaks, “We demand that all of you surrender to us. If you do the fighting can stop and we can all go home and forget about this.” She says.

-

“What!?” I hear Bunker yell, “You want us to surrender to you? Never! I would rather die before I served your cause.”

-

“Well, it doesn’t matter. Our army will crush you all underfoot. You are all weak!” Blue challenges.

-

Then I see a flash of blue, and before I know Unknown has Blue on the ground with a knife to her throat. “What did you just say? Hmm. I’m sorry I couldn’t hear you. What did you say? I would love to hear it again. Come on, give me a reason.”

-

He presses the knife and I start to see blood leaking from Blue’s neck. “UnknownProdigy, remove the knife from that pony’s neck right now! This is a time for peace, not fighting.” I hear UglyTurtle say.

-

Unknown whips his head around and I see a wild look in his eyes. “Oh look who it is. UglyTutle you are so hypocritical. You the leader of a religion that ravaged so many towns in my homeland. You the one who caused a massive civil war at The Rift. So stop talking about peace and let me kill her. She’s killed many, let me return the favor.” He spits at Ugly.

-

He turns back to Bluelighting, “You’ve killed many too Prodigy. Why doesn’t someone else return the favor for you as well.” Then in a swift motion, Blue pushes Unkonwn off and draws her knives. “Now let’s see who’s the better of the two.” She challenges.

-

“Fine by me.” Unknown lunges at Blue, and their knives meet. They meet each other blow for blow, neither backing down. They are in a deadly stalemate. Then I hear the a faint clicking and a voice saying, “Yes, keep that pose. Ooh that picture is a keeper.”

-

I look away from the battle long enough to see a light brown pony perched in a tree with a portable camera, snapping pictures of the battle between the two mercenaries. Then as I watch he stands up to get a better angle and the tree branch starts to crack. Everyone seems to notice this, even the two ponies that are fighting, and turn to see what is happening. The pony notices everyone staring at him. “Why is everyone looking at me? Did I do something wrong?” Then the branch gives way.

-

As he crashes to the ground, I hear a snicker coming from UnknownProdigy, and Ugly turns around a stares at him. Grovyle runs up to see if the pony is alright. Before he even gets there, the pony pops out of the wreckage and runs right past Grovyle, right up to Unknown. “Could you please state your name? What are your motives for participating in this war? What side are you on?” He questions.

-

The look in Unknown’s eyes is murderous. “I might ask you the same thing. Who are you?” He says, trying to stay calm.

-

“Why I’m Meester Tweester, newspony extraordinaire. I was sent here to document the events of this war.”

-

UnknownProdigy, obviously unimpressed looks up at UglyTurtle, “Can I kill him, please?”

-

“No, he was sent here on peaceful terms.”

-

“Now may I ask you, where did you come from?” He questions Unknown. He is also equipped with a pad and paper.

-

“Oh this will be fun.” Unknown groans.
