Mmmarvelous space again :p

Hi Bobo, would you mind asking if it's OK if a helper transforms the mlp.wikia.com file repository in one shared with all languages to avoid unnecessary re-uploads ? Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-IV-27 16:19 (UTC)

That sounds great, would it affect anything other than the availability of the images? I don't like when stuff like that leaves a mess on special pages. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:17, April 27, 2014 (UTC)
Hi, nope. It just changes the availability of the images on your wiki (being reusable on other wikis). No mess :) —Wyz @Wikia 20:44, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Thank you Wyz for the nice theory :) Now Bobo, do you think anyone would mind ? Other repositories would remain unchanged, it seems. Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-IV-28 21:00 (UTC)
Sounds good then, I don't see why not. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 22:06, April 28, 2014 (UTC)
Mind you gather the approval of the rest of the board ? Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-IV-29 20:04 (UTC)
Would this affect the editability of images? Would other language wikis be able to edit/move/delete them in the same way that people on this wiki do? Or is it a sort of read-only type of deal?  Food 25px-Surprise.png  03:34, April 30, 2014 (UTC)
It's just read-only. If users want to change the image, they have to go here to do it. —Wyz @Wikia 16:48, May 1, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks Wyz. Any other question ? Are all of you OK ? Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-V-01 19:44 (UTC)
I think everyone is satisfied now, go ahead. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 21:00, May 1, 2014 (UTC)
Done ; shouldn't change anything for this wiki. Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-V-05 23:10 (UTC)

Message. :)

Hey just wanted to know if you saw this message, sorry i know you might be busy with some other stuff?

Bleck11 (talk) 17:59, May 3, 2014 (UTC)

I saw it, but haven't been able to do much recently. I'm keeping the notification up, I'll look at it when I get some open time. Sorry for the delay.~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 02:02, May 4, 2014 (UTC)
Its alright, just answer it when you can and could you also find a way to remove the "Added by ???" text on the added pictures on Bronies Wikia, like it has been done here as well? :)
Bleck11 (talk) 02:16, May 4, 2014 (UTC)
In regards to that second part, copy the code under the heading "Hide image attribution" on MediaWiki:Common.css to the common.css page on the Bronies wiki.-- Undisguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.pngJonny Manztalkcontribse-mailedit count 02:42, May 5, 2014 (UTC)Disguised_Nyx_by_AibotNya.png
Thanks for helping, now its just the thing in Bobogoobo`s message that needs to be done. :)

You will need to become an autoconfirmed user before you are able to upload images. This means being on the wiki for four days and making at least ten edits. See Help:User access levels for more detail. Happy editing, ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:14, May 17, 2014 (UTC)

Just to be sure. :)

Hey Bobogoobo i just wanted to be sure if you remembered this message, sorry i dont mean to bother you in anyway?

Bleck11 (talk) 17:36, May 18, 2014 (UTC)

I remember, I still have the notification there. Just haven't had time to do wiki stuff in a while. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:49, May 18, 2014 (UTC)
Ok, well tell me when you are going to do it then. :)
Bleck11 (talk) 10:46, May 19, 2014 (UTC)

Just asking.

Hey my friend i was wondering if you think you might have time to do this soon or later, i understand if you are still busy?

Of course i am just asking, sorry if i am bothering you with this.

Bleck11 (talk) 14:01, June 4, 2014 (UTC)

Still busy. :P ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 00:25, June 5, 2014 (UTC)

Infobox film

I'm wondering: can this template be tweaked in such a way that links in the "See also" section don't default to what's put in the "title" parameter? I'm currently having that problem with My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks/Animated shorts. Maybe improvise with {{PAGENAME}} or something? furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 04:24, June 5, 2014 (UTC)

They were set to title or pagename if that was absent, but apparently that wasn't the right order. I made them all just pagename now; see if that works. For the shorts I guess you could create redirects to the appropriate place, or if desired I could just add new parameters to specify each page in the see also section, which would also avoid any future problems. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:11, June 6, 2014 (UTC)
That'll work perfectly, thanks. The associated pages just need to be split and moved. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 01:21, June 6, 2014 (UTC)
The current setup or do you want me to add the new parameters? ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 04:27, June 6, 2014 (UTC)
The current setup works just great. Thanks again. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 04:32, June 6, 2014 (UTC)

Pregunta (question)

Do you think you can format this song: http://vimeo.com/66970661  into a "youtube player"-ish template to play on my profile?

If you can't, well, thanks anyway!!! :)

Plane in the Desert (talk) 23:55, June 6, 2014 (UTC)Plane in the Desert

Wait, I found another version on Youtube! Sorry if I caused any trouble! Thanks anyway :) :) :)

Yours Truly

Plane in the Desert (talk) 23:38, June 9, 2014 (UTC) Plane in the Desert

Sorry, didn't a chance to look at it. I think YouTube is enough anyway, you could convert it yourself if it hadn't been available. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:22, June 10, 2014 (UTC)

Tabs withing tabs

I'm currently trying to implement a system similar to the one used in your character templates on another wiki, except due to quite a different nature of the content there, I obviously can't just copy-paste the character code. Yet, I'm really having a hard time working around it and I wonder, how do I code the page to get the <tabber> work properly within other <tabber>'s?

I currently need a version without all the {{{#if:}}}'s, so I wonder if I could get any help here... ^^; - Sligneris (talk) 21:14, June 26, 2014 (UTC)

It should look something like this:
{{#tag:tabber|tab1={{#tag:tabber|subtab1=content1
{{!}}-{{!}}subtab2=content2
}}
{{!}}-{{!}}tab2={{#tag:tabber|subtab1=content1
{{!}}-{{!}}subtab2=content2
}}
}}
And so on. The lack of line breaks is so that the tabber script doesn't put extra spaces in the tooltip for the tab title. Hope that helps, let me know if you have more questions. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:14, June 26, 2014 (UTC)
Thank you, that really helped.
Another thing is: how can I use non-breaking spaces in the tab's name?
Sometimes, with many tabs the resolution isn't big enough to fit all tabs in a single line and as a result a tab named with several words might be broken into 2 lines. How can I make sure that the tab displays fully in the new line? - Sligneris (talk) 16:06, June 30, 2014 (UTC)
Use &nbsp; instead of a regular space. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 22:06, June 30, 2014 (UTC)
Actually, &nbsp; shows up as exactly &nbsp; in the tab's name. That's why I asked for help in the first place =P - Sligneris (talk) 01:12, July 3, 2014 (UTC)
Make sure you're using just & instead of &amp, the latter is just to escape it so it can be shown as text. If that's not the problem, give me a link to where it is and I'll take a look. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 03:23, July 3, 2014 (UTC)

- Sligneris (talk) 10:54, July 4, 2014 (UTC)

That's very odd. It used to work, and the documentation for the extension even says to do it that way. I'm going to submit a bug report to Wikia and I'll get back to you when they reply. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 21:59, July 4, 2014 (UTC)
Here is the reply: ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:49, July 10, 2014 (UTC)
Rappy, Jul 08 10:06 PM:

Yeah, that behavior was removed because it allowed script based code to be added so it had to be removed.

As far as the coding goes, there is no current way to keep a tab from 'breaking' to a new line.

We are still working on a tabber/tabview replacement. I will add this to the feedback for this new feature.

Wikia updates?

Hey Bobogoobo just wondering, do you think you can do this soon or are you still busy with other things?

Sorry, its just been a long time since i last asked you and i am going on vacation soon, so kinda need to know if you are still going to do what i asked you about later. -_-

Bleck11 (talk) 22:49, July 3, 2014 (UTC)

Still busy, might get to it while you're on vacation. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 21:28, July 4, 2014 (UTC)

Ok, I will try to ask you again after the 14 or 15. July then, thats when i am back from vacation. :)

Bleck11 (talk) 13:56, July 7, 2014 (UTC)

Background. :)

Hey i know you are busy, but could you give the Bronies Wikia the same background this wikia is using now? :)

Bleck11 (talk) 17:21, July 7, 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure they should be so identical. It can get confusing. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 21:52, July 7, 2014 (UTC)
Dont worry, I think the logo and the main page is visible/clear enough for everyone to see that they are not the same wiki. :)
Besides, it is the fandom counterpart of this wikia after all. XD
So will you do it and do you think you can do the other changes i asked you about before, if you get time to do it as well of course?
Bleck11 (talk) 22:24, July 7, 2014 (UTC)

Infobox character

You know how the character infobox's "kind" parameter can allow for two types of ponies (or pony and human) and the category for whichever comes first is transcluded on the page if they're separated by an ampersand (&)? Can this be done for the "sex" parameter too in case a character is one gender in some media and the opposite gender in other media? furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 19:36, July 12, 2014 (UTC)

Sure, I think I did what you asked. You just wanted the categorization changed to only be the first one specified? And I made it so you can specify the source for each one, it just checks for the first one to contain "female" (first) or "male" (after that), not case sensitive. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 21:13, July 12, 2014 (UTC)
Looks good -- although, as with the "kind" parameter, could you make it so the ampersand shows as a line break when published? That should about do it. Thanks! furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 21:47, July 12, 2014 (UTC)

Minor aside: the Fan Labor Wiki has a little problem with the Infobox person template. Pages with this infobox display icon links to the person's YouTube channel, deviantART page, Twitter, Tumblr, etc. Recently, when the pages are edited, the account icons become really wide, causing the infobox to become really wide too. Examples:

Pages using the infobox that haven't been edited recently are unaffected, but once edited, they are. Any chance I can get some help with this when you're free? Or at the very least any recommendations? furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 22:38, July 13, 2014 (UTC)

Did this start happening in the last five days or so, with no changes to related code or site CSS? If so, it may be another bug related to a recent change Wikia made to image thumbnails, which a lot of a people seem to be having trouble with. Send a bug report to Wikia with a description of what is going wrong. They might just ask you to wait for more fixes to go live. If it actually isn't part of that change, I'll take a closer look and see what I can do. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:21, July 13, 2014 (UTC)
Alright, will do. Thanks. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 23:44, July 13, 2014 (UTC)
As you guessed, it was indeed related to the recent technical update. A fix is planned to go up sometime this week. Thanks again. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 16:32, July 15, 2014 (UTC)

Does the infobox's "kind" parameter specifically cater to "Earth", "Unicorn", and "Pegasus"? Or can it be altered to transclude Category:Equestria Girls characters by simply reading "& Human"? Otherwise, it shows up somewhat oddly like this. :P furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 05:16, October 12, 2014 (UTC)

Fixed. I think it makes a lot more sense the way it is now. Let me know if that accidentally broke any other pages. And thanks for that, I'd been stuck at 16,698 edits forever and looking for something to do :P. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 07:27, October 12, 2014 (UTC)
Seems to work great. Thanks! ^^ furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 15:29, October 12, 2014 (UTC)

DeadVideos Script

CC Discussion - I am hoping to use the script you created to discover deleted videos. I was just going to just import the script from the MediaWiki page here in case of any future edits to improve it. Unfortunately, I can't do so without causing the message on Special:BlankPage from appearing on forum threads and the wiki's main page. Additionally, outside of this problem, no videos are listed as deleted anyway though I know some are (I'm always logged into a Google account). I was wondering if you could modify the script so I could put it to use elsewhere. I have links on the discussion page above and your help would be most appreciated. Thanks. DEmersonJMFM 00:04, July 14, 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, the import uses some conditions to make sure it only runs on the proper page. It'll also need some customization for a separate wiki. I'll reply on that CC thread with instructions. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 00:56, July 14, 2014 (UTC)

Updates on the other wikia.

Hey my friend do you think you have time to give the Bronies Wikia the same background this wikia is using now and do those updates on the wiki?

Sorry if i am asking you a bit much about this, but that wikia could really need those improvements. Besides, i havent asked you about this in a while now.

Bleck11 (talk) 15:03, July 16, 2014 (UTC)

Merging media-storage

First sorry for bad language.

Second in recent days I have received an indication from the user Hedgeg (talk) about merging storage-media wiki and how the past few days I have had a lot of trouble later add images in my wiki pt.mlp.wikia.com I ask you (administrators) permission to use the merging media-storage on my wiki. I eagerly await a response.

Matheus Leonardo (talk) 11:05, July 20, 2014 (UTC)

Yep, according to the first section on this page and this forum you have permission. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 02:43, July 21, 2014 (UTC)

Category highlight

Hello Bobo, might you help me find the way to choose which articles will get their icons among the top of a Category's ? Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-VII-21 21:04 (UTC)

The category gallery? It's the most "popular" pages, which I think means the ones that are visited the most often. I remove the category gallery with my global CSS anyway :P. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 00:53, July 22, 2014 (UTC)
Ok, so no manual fine-tuning, then... Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-VII-23 21:01 (UTC)

Just something?

Hey may i ask why you are kinda avoiding answering my questions, i know some might be the same i asked before but still? :l

I can see that you have been answering all of the other messages you receives here, but keeps leaving those i sent you lately unanswered. -_-

If you still cant do those improvements for that other wikia and is busy, then i understand and i will wait until you are able to do them.

Bleck11 (talk) 13:28, July 22, 2014 (UTC)

Because I don't have anything more to say, I'm still limited on time and I'll get to it when I can. Spamming my email doesn't help :P. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:19, July 22, 2014 (UTC)
I am not "spamming" or anything, i am just asking because i honestly dont excatly know when you can do it or not and i am bit afraid you may forget as time goes, since you are busy with a lot. -_-
You see, things like that has happened to me before, thats why i can be a bit unsure sometimes.
Bleck11 (talk) 00:10, July 23, 2014 (UTC)

Infobox Transcript

Could you update this template to account for Transcripts/My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks and Transcripts/My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks/Animated shorts -- in this order, if I may be particular?

  • My Little Pony Equestria Girls
  • Rainbow Rocks animated shorts
  • My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Rainbow Rocks

furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 02:30, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

Done. I also added a previous/next section to the film infobox for consistency, not sure if "chronology" is the best word though. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 22:50, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

Question?

Hey i am just asking so i will understand better, since you are very busy and dont have time to do any of the "updates" i asked you about for this wikia`s fandom counterpart before in the previous messages here yet, then how are you able to do and get time for any of the other stuff people are asking you to do here? :l

Is it because those updates i asked you to do is a bit more difficult and will take a lot of time for you to do?

Bleck11 (talk) 22:59, July 25, 2014 (UTC)

Yes, this required a little more research and work. I have more fun working on templates so it's easier to make time for that. Plus, to be honest, when I let things go for a while and they're on my to-do list for that long it's hard to go back to them sometimes. Anyway, I think I've done everything you wanted now. Sorry for taking so long. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 00:16, July 26, 2014 (UTC)

Infobox episode

Could you fix the "allusions" links for season three and season four episodes so they direct to their respective List of allusions subpages? (By the by, thanks for fixing Infobox Transcript.) furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 18:41, July 29, 2014 (UTC)

That's an easy one :P and no problem. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 21:58, July 29, 2014 (UTC)
After this edit by 0drake0, shouldn't the "animation errors" links for the S3 and S4 episode infoboxes been updated once I created the corresponding subpages? furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 21:53, August 11, 2014 (UTC)
Yes, looks like they may just need their cache cleared to display properly. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 00:05, August 12, 2014 (UTC)

Somewhat related info - starting from the next update, LUA will be available on demand on wikis. Perhaps some more complicated templates could be rewritten for greater parse speed? Vengir (talk) 06:33, July 30, 2014 (UTC)

Sure - if I feel like/have time for learning Lua and going through that :P. Would be nice if we had an indication of which templates are the slowest, though I guess Special:ParserSpeed might help a bit with that. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 20:48, July 30, 2014 (UTC)

Infobox song

With any luck, this'll be the last infobox-related request I make for a while. (:P) Could you make it so Category:Equestria Girls songs is transcluded on Shake your Tail!, Perfect Day for Fun, and -- for when it's moved out of the Workshop -- Battle of the Bands? Thanks! furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 18:05, July 30, 2014 (UTC)

Doneskies. Are we planning to divide the songs into EG1 and RR subcategories or anything? ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 20:48, July 30, 2014 (UTC)
That hadn't occurred to me actually. Thought it'd just be simpler/more convenient to group them together since they're part of the same "sub-franchise" and each subcategory would have few pages on its own, but I could go either way. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 21:25, July 30, 2014 (UTC)
Depends on whether you feel we're a wiki mainly for the show, or for G4 as a whole. It works as it is, I just like to over-organize everything :P. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 21:59, July 30, 2014 (UTC)

[Rights]

hello i would like to become admin or chat moniter. could i please have that happen? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Zero31 (talkcontribs) 01:35, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

No. Welcome to the wiki though. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 02:34, July 31, 2014 (UTC)

[Deleted images]

Hey Bobogoobo- I was just wondering why the recent pictures that I uploaded where deleted. I started them with FNMADE and put spaces, so I look forward to hearing back. Thanks,

       IoPOEp9.pngPonydreamer125 Talk15:56, August 15, 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, I meant FANMADE.

They were unused. If you plan to use them somewhere I can restore them, but otherwise there's no point in keeping images that aren't being used. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 20:19, August 15, 2014 (UTC)

A question?

Hey Bobogoobo, if i was wondering, do you know of a way to make it unable for users who are not admins to "create new categories" on a wikia, through coding or something?

Bleck11 (talk) 01:10, August 23, 2014 (UTC)

You could use Abuse Filter to do it. It is enabled on wikis by request. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 04:48, August 23, 2014 (UTC)
Ok, could you help me use it for the Bronies Wikia?
We have been having a lot of trouble with that category issue lately, people who arrive just wont read or follow the links to the rules on the wikia thats clearly seen.
Bleck11 (talk) 14:26, August 23, 2014 (UTC)
Done, should be good now. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 22:46, August 23, 2014 (UTC)
Really, you mean the Bronies Wikia will now not allow anyone else who is not an Admin to create any "new" categories on it, like on any of the pages there? :)
Bleck11 (talk) 23:06, August 23, 2014 (UTC)
Yes indeed. I tested it with one of my other accounts. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 02:14, August 24, 2014 (UTC)

Awesome, thank you so much for helping with that my friend, now we dont need to worry about that issue anymore. :D

Bleck11 (talk) 02:34, August 24, 2014 (UTC)

Making new categories issue.

Hey Bobo i dont mean to point out anything, but are you sure you did it right? :l

I surprisingly discovered that a non-admin user (i dont mean just those who are anonymous) was able to create a "new" unneccessary category on a page at Bronies Wikia, even thought you said you had probably fixed that issue (you know making all non-admin users unable to create any categories on that wikia).

Adding a page to a category does not create the category. I'm not sure if it's possible to make it so that people can't add nonexistent categories to pages; I'll go see what AbuseFilter can do. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 22:14, August 24, 2014 (UTC)
Looks like AbuseFilter couldn't do that. You could ask on Community Central if there is a way to prevent editors from adding nonexistent categories to pages. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 22:24, August 24, 2014 (UTC)
Ok, but could you do that for me?
My birthday is coming soon, so i am going to be busy with a lot sadly. :(

Bot work needed

Hey Bobo, I'm here to beg for assistance with category cleanup again. I added a bunch of pictures to the Ponyville gallery, all of which needs the Ponyville images category, and removed a bunch of pictures, which need to be stripped of their Ponyville images category. I linked the edits because I thought it might be helpful if you had a list of the files I added and removed. I could manually do it all but it's late. So thank you for the umpteenth time. You're a lifesaver. Thanks, Steph physarum (talk)dyog086.png 06:48, August 29, 2014 (UTC)

I also forgot to mention that I'm a complete idiot for forgetting both the email and the password of my own bot. I'm too embarrassed to request bot rights again for another account (whose email and password I emailed to myself), and I doubt I'd use it much anyway because of future inactivity. (:() So yeah, sorry to burden you with my troubles Steph physarum (talk)dyog086.png 07:01, August 29, 2014 (UTC)
Both done, thanks for the links. Looks like a bunch of other images needed the category added too. As for the bot account, you can probably contact Wikia and have them change the email or something. No worries. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:43, August 30, 2014 (UTC)
Thanks. I remember contacting Wikia several months ago (or was it longer than that) saying I forgot the email address and password for Fluffle Bot, but then the guy was like "oh then we don't have proof the account is yours." I asked again just now though with a link to the bot rights request forum, which is the only proof I can give. If they don't accept that, I give up (tired) Steph physarum (talk)dyog086.png 14:42, August 30, 2014 (UTC)

List of ponies links

Great job on this list of ponies script, Bobo. Now, I've noticed, that when a there's a link to list of ponies that was meant to direct me to the given pony's entry no longer fulfill its intended function. I know it might be hard to fix, but I thought I would notify you. Perhaps you could find a solution. Vengir (talk) 16:43, September 5, 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out. I have a solution in mind, but I will discuss with the admins to make sure it would be okay to do. I also just noticed that the change broke the script for List of ponies/fast, so I'll have to work on some way to get around that eventually. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:43, September 5, 2014 (UTC)

Transcript Page Error

The "All Transcripts" page currently omits Three's Company and Trade Ya. Drake Clawfang (talk) 18:54, September 14, 2014 (UTC)

It looks like there's an error with the API query I'm using. I'll contact Wikia to see if anything can be done, if not I'll have to rewrite that portion of the script. In either case I need to update it for the additional EG stuff anyway. Thanks for pointing that out. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 21:35, September 14, 2014 (UTC)

Removing Titles from Character Names

Hello I've been a long time follower of this wiki and I've been thinking about this suggestion for awhile I was wondering about removing titles from the main header of some of the character's pages. On the One Piece wiki characters that titles or epithets in some of the character names (i.e. Don in Don Krieg, Don Chinjao) where removed because it was not part of their actual name. For instance Princess Celestia, Queen Chrysalis, and Prince Blueblood, have their titles and are not their actual name (They weren't born as "Princess Celestia" or "Queen Chrysalis"). For example since Twilight has become a princess at the end of season three here page has remained "Twilight Sparkle" instead of "Princess Twilight Sparkle".

--Jigsaw Billy (talk) 00:26, September 17, 2014 (UTC)

On this wiki it's more about conforming to how the characters are usually referred to, especially how they are written in credits. I believe this has been an established policy of the wiki, but I can't find any forum discussions about it easily, so if you can't find anything you're welcome to start one. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:17, September 17, 2014 (UTC)

Attention!

As an admin of this Wiki, I am asking you to put something on the front page of the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Wiki.  I am affiliated with the Sonic News Network and on our front page we have a banner to continue internet nuatrality.  I am placing a link to Sonic News Network to view the banner.  I would appreciate your viewing of the banner and placing it on the front page of the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic  Wiki.  In case you are not aware of the internet nuetrality battle, cable companies are trying to control the internet by forcing users to start paying to use the internet.

Sonicboom14 (talk) 22:43, September 23, 2014 (UTC)

We already had the banner up for a while, starting on the official day for it as Wikia posted. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:46, September 24, 2014 (UTC)

Characters' page

Hello Bobo, Basically what I said to ImperfectXIII.

The Characters' page here is full of tables. I tried a little something here, with a specific class helping to avoid precising all the inline-blocks. The result gives responsive design (and also makes it less terrible on mobile), lighter in code, as well as visually.

I know the wikia system isn't extremely user-class friendly, but if the model pleases you, you may wish to add a class to avoid ~170 occurences of  style="display: inline-block; ". Most of the detail should be found on the discussion with ImperfectXIII.

So, what do you think ? About the page, and about the class ? Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-XI-04 23:42 (UTC)

Other than mobile, it looks about the same. I don't think implementing something with that many divs is the best idea. They tend to lead to unclosed tags and all kinds of messes. Maybe we could come up with something else to do about mobile. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 03:10, November 5, 2014 (UTC)
You are perfectly right, divs are not the best option for this. However, once you replace them with ul and li, a new world of possibilities opens. Unclosed li's shouldn't be an issue, and they might even be all left unclosed, even if that is not very "new standard" ; or even replaced by *object notation (untested). What do you think of it now ? Any advice as to particular techniques of simplification you advise ? Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-XI-06 12:13 (UTC)
You could probably do it with just * method contained in a div. That would be a lot simpler, though it still wouldn't be editable without source mode or the new visual editor. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 03:02, November 7, 2014 (UTC)
Tested, * created a new unclassable ul, even if I try to circumvent its creation. I think of putting all the lists within a single classed div (shouldn't break any visual edition... right ?), then all the entries with just * and no ul, and a descendant ul css for the div class in question. Alternatively, a css specific to the page, but am unsure how to proceed in this case. Your opinion ? Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-XI-11 22:34 (UTC)
That's what I meant, just have the class on a div surrounding the ul and select ul/li in the CSS. I don't think the older visual editor likes any kind of HTML, but I don't think our characters page can be used with it anyway. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:11, November 13, 2014 (UTC)

Chapter book infobox

Would it be possible to have a new infobox made for chapter books? I hope to have a few full summary pages created for the various books released by Little, Brown and Company. If it's indeed possible, maybe something along the lines of...

{{Infobox chapter book
|title =
|image =
|published =
|author =
|isbn = (links to Special:BookSources)
|previous =
|next =
}}

...with a few "See also"'s linking to allusions, Little, Brown and Company's homepage, and Hachette Book Group's homepage. furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 20:04, November 12, 2014 (UTC)

Done, let me know any changes. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 01:11, November 13, 2014 (UTC)
That's fantastic! Thanks a lot! furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 01:32, November 13, 2014 (UTC)

Quick question

Would there be any serious complications in changing the name of a transcluded category? For example, changing the transcluded Category:Comics in {{Comics and chapter books}} to "Category:Printed media"? Or if a change is made, is it simply a matter of waiting for the cache to refresh? furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 01:45, November 13, 2014 (UTC)

On second thought, I have another, potentially safer idea: could you have {{Infobox comic}} transclude Category:Comics, {{Infobox book}} transclude Category:Books, and {{Comics and chapter books}} not transclude anything? furdklZ.png 2xoHxMt.gif 01:51, November 13, 2014 (UTC)

Done. Theoretically pages' categories should update pretty quickly, but I'm not entirely sure how Wikia's caching works anymore. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 06:44, November 13, 2014 (UTC)

Adding Transcripts/All to transcripts template

I remember when I couldn't find the all-transcripts page. It would be much easier it it was included in template. Xeoxer (talk) 12:08, November 13, 2014 (UTC)

It's linked at the top of the Episodes page (which Transcripts now redirects to). I guess I could add it to that template, but first there are a few bugs with it that I need to fix. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 21:39, November 13, 2014 (UTC)

Characters' page (2)

Hello, I come again to seek your guidance in regards of the characters' page. Here is the English version, there is the French. It uses only galleries and a little CSS to polish it.

  • 20% lighter (and I could easily take away a large part of the tabs' attributes)
  • Easiest to edit in any possible way (right ?)
  • Perfectly compatible with any view mode

Drawback so far :

  • Flexibility (exit imagemap and unique large images for consistency, but both may be brought one way or another if necessary)
  • Image display adaptability (wikia doesn't accept unique heights yet, had to use squares, and forget custom overfow)

So, what do you think of it, this time ? Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-XI-25 20:20 (UTC)

Oh, btw, just saw your answer above... I guess that's an altenative I left apart for now (much much more flexible, but works less beautifully on mobile and might be slightly harder to edit for newb). When packed mode arrives (next mw version or so), we should lose the "square" inconvenient". Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-XI-25 20:44 (UTC)

Yeah, if a future version makes it so you can customize the size of the pictures, that would look great. If you could take the previous version with using li and make it use just wikitext, that would probably look about the same and also quite good. Up to you to weigh the benefits and drawbacks of each method in terms of usability, upkeep, etc. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 07:55, November 26, 2014 (UTC)
  • If I could tweak the wikiamobile css or force import of common.css (or other), then lists are a most flexible and easy option which apparently also has your favour. Galleries have the advantage of being pretty much out-of-the-box once created (hardly beatable in simplicity), semantically slightly better (the page is in essence supposed to be a long succession of galleries), and better adapted to mobile. It is mostly a question of how much flexibility you really need, compared to the fit of the setup (for example, the names will normally be below, not inside the image, and that is hardly fixable except with displacement and coloration... which is preferably prevented).
  • So for now I'll personally stick to galleries for the French characters' page. although the method is less than perfect, it does provide the best experience on mobile for now. An alternative to squares is fixed widths with variable heights. I don't get why fixed heights don't work... but the future packed mode should (hopefully) take precedence over this issue.
  • Now, talking about mobile css, this kind of trick works, but only on handheld devices (forcing mobile on desktop won't use it). Did try here. It could be interesting to use if we want to go back to lists. This may be an alternative track, but seems a bit convoluted. What do you think ?
  • Anyway, if you take the French homepage, the lists are adaptive to width while appearing the same as on the English one. Makes it better in everything compared to tables (which are plenty here, and some are replaceable). No custom css was made for that, hence repetitive styles. If you think using wikicode * lists could be the best solution on the English characters' page, I encourage that too ! But be prepared to add a little something to your css file if you don't want to drown under hundreds of simple repetitions. Pure * wikicode can do wonders with the right css support (and even without...).
  • Little to do with that, but if you want to check project:workshop/Lyrics, I'd be interested about what you think of it. Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-XI-26 14:14 (UTC)
  1. Put a * list, tested with a physical handheld (which is a strange limitation), and actually put 2 images per row instead of one. I'd be glad if you could test what you obtain of it, for science. Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-XI-26 15:52 (UTC)
  2. First things : very nice, but the tabbed (untabbed in mobile) galleries now appear awfully large. What do you advice about it: replacing the galleries by lists, or making a second specific code destined to them ? I wonder if the lists shouldn't have a non-adaptive image width, thus filling any device, handheld or not. A solution would be if there is a way to force the display (always, not punctually) of the page in desktop mode (or monobook, or whatever) so that one size may fit all (now it is mostly "one code, two systems"). Your opinion ? Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-XI-26 16:04 (UTC)
  3. After a few passes, I went with 4 pics a row (24.5%–25%, with a minimum size of 9rem, because we're still talking about smartphones), made a few display adjustments etc. The galleries still look slightly prettier on mobile, but can't be centered or justified (or at least I failed to find a non-div way to do that on mobile). If you want to see how that appears on mobile with a desktop, you can add the following to this page's <head> (or wherever ; automaticall added on a real handheld device thanks to the aforementionned hack, to which I didn't find a circumvention yet...) : <link rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" href="/load.php?debug=false&mode=articles&articles=MediaWiki:Common.css&only=styles"> and tell me how you think of improving it further ;) Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-XI-27 23:40 (UTC)
Those injections are interesting. Verbatim seems like the best one for you since you're only looking at one page (or maybe a couple more). That seems like it would work pretty well. I was thinking about it earlier and wondered if you could redirect mobile users to a /mobile page, for example. It is probably doable with JavaScript, though not exactly a wiki-like method.
That's an interesting way to avoid tables. Is the calc() function in your width declarations part of an extension?
I like the idea of the lyrics page, but it looks like it's toeing the line of how much information should be included in one place. I don't think it's too much to have to click to the song page to see the lyrics. I forget if LSTs are cached, but if not, loading all those on one page would also take extra time. The tables on Songs look like they're getting a little cluttered anyway. Another option would be to make a page like the all transcripts page (once I get around to fixing that, since the API doesn't guarantee that links will be in the same order as on a page) just for songs. That isn't really very wiki-like either, but I've scripted so much other stuff that it's becoming consistent :P.
I don't have a phone and I'm not sure how close ?useskin=wikiamobile is to the actual appearance, so I can't test it myself too effectively. I'm not a designer anyway, you're doing a great job without my help.
Sorry for the delayed reply, had a lot of commitments during my break and have some projects and exams coming up. ~Bobogoobo (talk) 40?cb=20120702121758 23:01, November 29, 2014 (UTC)
Asked via Special:Contact ; the answer is basically that non-officially, mobile is still very much in beta. I'll interpret that as "let's do what we want with injections and not complain when it all breaks".
I think you are right about verbatim, should use that in the future versions.
calc() is CSS3. I prefer the way columns CSS and flexbox work, but the first lists items in vertical order, and the second is not widely accepted yet (never thought I'd brief you about CSS, given our old conversations) ^^
Not entirely sure if I understand it well, but I do recognize that two levels of tables plus lst is way beyond acceptable load (server- and client-wise) for a common page like songs.
No problem, I did pretty much all the needed testing to consider it stable (on Firefox...). Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-XII-07 01:19 (UTC)
Great success ! Thanks —  Drakep6yPvD4.png  2014-XII-21 01:55 (UTC)
