We Got the Beat is a 1980 song by the American rock band The Go-Go's. Rachel Platten's version with modified lyrics serves as the opening song in My Little Pony The Movie. Part of the song is also featured in the film's second official trailer. It is notably absent from the soundtrack album.

Production

According to film composer Daniel Ingram, he had an alternate opening for the movie; but it was swapped out last minute for Platten's version of "We Got the Beat".[1]

Lyrics

[Rachel Platten]
Hey! Hey! Hey!
Hey! Hey! Hey!
See the ponies trottin' down the street
Equestria is where they wanna meet
They all know where they wanna go
And they're trottin' in time
And they're trottin', yeah
They got the beat
They got the beat
They got the beat
Yeah, they got the beat
Go-go music really makes us dance
Do the pony, puts us in a trance
Do the watusi, just give us a chance
That's when we fall in line
'Cause we got the beat
We got the beat
We got the beat
Yeah, we got it!
Hey! Hey! Hey!
We got the beat
Yeah, ponies got the beat
Yeah, we got the beat
We got the beat
Ponies got the beat
